Hopefully the payback is Hulk becoming the new punching bag.
A v X isn't even on my Thor radar. Its just an irrelevance, nothing more than a comic book Capcom game.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of Hulk but have him beaten instead of Thor wouldn't make anything better. Thor can lose, my problem is the execution of the fights (and in some cases, the characters fighting)..
I equally hope now that in the final act we don't get 'and suddenly Thor beat the phoenix five with newfound strength' or something like that. At least, if they've made the X-Men so powerful, make an amazing and epic final fight! That way, even though the mishandling of Thor sucked, I won't feel so insulted.
It's not going to happen. Thor is taking the backseat in this fight. I'm a huge Thor fan. I came around to enjoying Thor because he's got great comics and there was a poster on another board that always boosted Thor. But maybe it's time to just admit that Thor can't beat a P5 or P4.
I think it was a bit unfair for him to get beaten by Rachel (I don't know Rachel well but that was a bit unfair) I think we have cause to believe that was because Thor wasn't intending to kill Rachel. If he came at Rachel like he came at Emma in AvX VS 4 I'm pretty sure Rachel would be a smear.
There are some people Thor can't beat. And while he has been jobbed a lot recently, he had some great fights in which no one else around him could've done much-- he stood up to Sentry relatively well, even after Sentry ripped Ares apart, and he fought Null and Anguir (Worthy Hulk/Thing) at the same time and didn't look like an idiot. I don't like that Fraction made Thor say he could never beat Hulk, but it was still a great fight. He also beat the Serpent. He flew through Galactus head or chest in Mighty Thor.
He knocked the Phoenix out in space.
He's had a much better run than any character in a long long time! He's being beaten by The P5/P4 in their event. It's okay to cut him some slack.
I know, what I meant was that given the show of force that was made by Thor's defeat at the hands of the P5 (now 4), I wouldn't like to see him fight and win all of a sudden.. They've established something by having him defeated, so now they have to deal with it!
What I'd really like to see is Marvel acknowledge their heroes powers and weaknesses. There used to be a time when writers made sure you knew what a character was capable of, or at least hinted about it (for example, I remember one of JMS' Amazing Spider-man issues in which Peter stated that he knew how to take down the Hulk, and that heroes in general paid attention to each other should anything happen). But now, it seems that it's more important to show 'hey, this guy beat Thor, and he's supposed to be powerful, so this new guys is EXTRA powerful ohmygodwe'reintrouble!' than to establish some sort of limit to the character. I don't know, I don't write comic books, but it doesn't seem like such a crazy idea to KNOW THE CHARACTERS!
True that. There is so much Thor could do that he isn't, that doesn't require him to get stuff from Asgard. But I think it's crazy-- Thor was wearing armor in AvX 6 when they dropped into Utopia, but he won't get some fancy Asgardian armor?
Is this the same type of non-sense he is going to bring to a fight with Surtur?
Pretty much this.
There was a time, when hero vs hero fights said something about each of the characters, and showed some inventiveness, as well as respected each characters strengthens and weaknesses. But now, all too often, hero vs. hero fights / encounters are about making one hero look good at the expense of the other.
