Cap ought to be peak human--as Erkstine said in Vol 1 #109--'a sound mind in a sound body.' Cap is resistent to disease, fatigue and aging due to the SSS (which is NOT a steroid or drug; but as Gru suggested is more akin to a virus that is replicated continually in his system). Cap is the pinnacle of human ability--surpassing any Olympic-level athlete. He is the best that the Human-System can attain.

Peak human is my preferred Captain American. Though I'm not opposed to reading about different takes on the character.

Peak human to be is just more bad @$$.

He's the greatest hero on the planet... a guy that commands kings and gods. And he has no actual powers. He's just that good. That to me is more impressive than Hulk lifting mountains or Superman pushing planets.

Cap has been my all-time favorite superhero since the late 70's, bar none. More than Ben Grimm, Hal Jordan or Wally West (my other top faves), Cap is da man....

    Surely that is a contradiction?

Myself, I think Cap could stand to be less strong. I'd like to agree that he's peak human, but what a lot of fans and writers refer to as peak human is that he's a strong as a gold medalist weight-lifter and as fast gold medalist sprinter. Except that really pushes Cap into superhuman territory since being a weight lifter precludes one from being a sprinter.

I'd say more a combination gymnast and sprinter. Or I'd say that Steve is what you'd get if a a very healthy couple had a baby that was raised on a healthy diet and constant exercise regimen.

Not a contradiction at all Sirrah Amir. Olympic-level atheletes are typically highly-trained, intensely driven individuals--but they are not at the pinnacle that the human-system is capable of attaining. The SSS has taken Steve beyond Olympic-level, but short of super-human--he is the absolute apex of what the human body can sustain--every function (mind, body, emotion & spirit) operating at 100% effiency. For Steve the administration of the SSS in conjuction with the Vita-Rays does not necessarily preclude him from being either sprinter or weight-lifter--but rather includes all aspects that the perfect 'sound mind in a sound body' can achieve. I agree he shouldn't be drawn as incredibly bulked as many artists have done--but that he should the most complete and functional lean, mean fighting machine that humanity has ever produced (Exceeding even Doc Savage --whom you reference as a child 'raised on a healthy diet and constant exercise regimen').

By peak-human I mean that Steve (due again to the SSS) goes beyond what any athelete has achieved--but is just short of super-human.

I'm a little new to comics and a Cap fan. I don't know the whole rules about the deaths of characters and their revivals, but here is a quick question about Steve's old friend, the Red Skull.

Is the Skull really dead, or should we expect him to come back?

... why isn't Steve using Bucky's gun? Or at least some other new gadget, aside from the shield?
