We are here in Philly! (Sorry ChrisDonaghy )

I won't be watching the game tonight. The excitement is too much for me. Instead I just check the score online once in a while. Last year, I knew when they won just because of noise from outside (folks cheering, car horns tooting for 15 minutes.) If the Phillies win tonight, I guess it'll be the same.

I thought the important stuff had been decided, that there were no more playoffs.

The day does not drag when you're on vampire time. This week I've been going to sleep at 6am and getting up around 5pm. Essentially dawn/dusk.

I'm writing Secret Six today. I love love LOVE writing Black Alice. She would make a great opponent for Wonder Woman.

Hmm, let's see... I dealt with two plagiarists in one of my college classes yesterday, scaring the ever-living crap out of them, and tomorrow I am taking part in a seminar for a global partnership project where my English 4 Honors class (seniors) will be interacting with a school in either Beijing or Baoding, China. I'll find out tomorrow which city is participating.

Today wasn't that bad. I had a conference call with one of our customers on why their IP phones weren't working correctly. It just makes things go a lot more smoothly when the customer is receptive to what I'm telling them.

I'm running on fumes though - I've slept maybe a total of 6 hours since Monday. I loathe taking meds to help but I may have to. I don't know how I'm just hope that I don't crash before my World of Warcraft raid tonight.

Wow, does that mean you're in tech support? I would be terrified to have that job. My family is always calling me for help on their computers even though I am TERRIBLE with computers. I just work on them all day!

I have the same problem, for some reason everyone thinks I know how to fix computers, but I know very little about them.

I used to have that problem constantly (I am that techie support guy!)

I learned the way out very quickly. Whenever someone (other than a good mate, of course) asks me to help, I just say something like "Sure! How does £40 an hour plus parts sound?"

I see the MB has a banner ad that shouts, "Knockout Obama!" with a picture of him dodging and weaving, and two boxing gloves we're supposed to click on to hit him. Not only is the idea of this ad obnoxious (especially since it doesn't give any reason why we might want to hit ye prez other than just showing a picture, which possibly implies it's something about his appearance that might set folks off, hmm), but the person who designed/proofed this ad obviously doesn't know the difference between "knockout" and "knock out."

    Ah, American education.

And I'd be terrified to have to write one page of a story, let alone one that people were supposed to pay for!

I support about 60,000 users everyday and its old hat. I only do work at home for really good friends, or as a barter agreement.

I'll never forget the nurse who asked me to come to her house to help her with a "small problem". When I got there, I had to remove the hard drive and read it from another computer because it wouldn't boot up. I realized she had *somehow* deleted the folder that contained the guts of the Windows operating system. When I asked her how the folder got deleted, she said "I didn't think I needed it and it was taking up a lot of space."

Tech support is part of my job. Usually I'm the last person the customer or our techs talk to before we have to call the manufacturer of the product in question. It's not boring though that's for sure.

Yeah, I also get called on for help a lot at home. Just the other day my mom called with a question:

Mom: "My computer is acting weird."
Me: "Are you sure it's the computer acting weird?"
Mom: "Very funny. This thing keeps poping up on my screen."
    Me: "What does it say?"
Mom: "I don't remember, it's not there now."
Me: "OK. How long has this been happening?"
Mom: "Not very long. I went to this web site and this message came up and I clicked it away. It started doing it after that."
    Me: "Which website?"
    Mom: "I don't remember."
Me: "OK, do you know what the message said?"
    Mom: "No."
(By this time I have a very good idea what happened)
Me (jokingly): "Mom, what did I tell you about going to those porn sites?!"
Mom: "No no no I don't go there!"
Me: "Uh huh. Are you still using the 'E'?"
Mom: "Oh yeah! You told me to use the... uh... other one. Shoot."
Me: "Yeah, use Firefox. That's the one that is kinda orange and blue and looks like there's a fox on it."
Mom: "Oooh I see it. That doesn't look like a fox."
Me: "I know. I'll be over in a few minutes to take care of it."

So I went over there, got rid of the worm that was on her machine, and deleted the "E" shortcut from her desktop and quick launch. She called me last night to tell me she likes "the fox" better.
