Yeah there is a great documentary on the DVD about how hard it was to make this movie. Most of the financers were not going to put up money for a movie with Mickey in the lead, but the directro really believed in Mickey and in the end Mickey actually took a huge pay cut for the role. What was even cooler was when they showed how they filmed the matches, which for the most part were real matches at real events.
I wound up catching PA - it was playing over the weekend at one theatre, and only one showing a night - midnight. :P I think handheld movies have a bigger impact when you see them at home, but there's something about a packed audience jumping at every little thing that makes for a great movie-going experience. I crack up when a door creaks open and everyone goes, "OOOOOO!"
As for the scary factor, the jury's still out for me. Blair Witch was meh for me in the theaters, but I was bug-eyed when I watched it on TV. In the dark. In the dead of night. Alone!
edit!: I think the release date for the UK is November 27th

That IS cool, isn't it? I once saw the original Hallowe'en at the movies, after years of seeing it on video. It was great fun counting down to each shock, and then watching the popcorn fly!
I had much the same experience; although the theatre experience wasn't so much "meh" as sea-sick. Much better at home...
Thanks for this!
I just saw THE PROPOSAL.
It had Betty White doing a native fire ritual.
Unsurprisingly, it sucked.

I accept with information: Current fave books are:
Wonder Woman (surprise...)
Secret Six
Criminal
Love & Rockets (SO good to have this back)
Hellblazer
GL & GLC (Lovin' Blackest Night)
'Tec (Rucka + Jones + Hamner = YUM)
DMZ
The Boys
Plenty of Vertigo stuff.
Saw "Failure to Launch" this past weekend via Netflix. Y'know, I loved Sarah Jessica Parker and the gang back on that quirky TV series about high school nerds, "Square Pegs." Can't get used to her now being known as such a chic sex symbol. She acted well enough in this too, but the movie had as its protagonists two unlikable and even repulsive characters. There was no "save the cat" scene until the midpoint (much too late!) and that was so cliched it was rather pitiful.
Such a waste of good actors. I did quite enjoy the performances of gorgeous Justin Bartha (though I didn't get why his character was supposed to be such a loser, merely because he was a bit clumsy) and Zooey Deschanel. Too bad that the subplot was so much more engaging than the main plot.
