    Default Social Gathering/Off Topic Thread

Hey, all, I thought since so many of you seem to be making friends and talking about your lives (which is great!), that we would have a sticky thread where you can all talk about whatever you like with no worries about it being 'on-topic.'

It doesn't change anything, feel free to post whatever you like here or in other threads, but I thought it might be fun to have a thread just for the posters to talk to each other about their lives and thoughts.

    Thanks!

What a great idea, Gail! I know that I have made some new friends from these boards, and I'd love to have the opportunity (and place) to chat more.

I’m 32, I really became interested in WW comics in early 2004, although I was aware of WW comics and superhero comics or cartoons dating back to the premiere of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (see also, WW v1 297 or 298 for a brief intersection with DC), when I was very young, and a former U.S. government employee who has been in litigation for his job back for 3 years now, as of November 21, 2009, no thanks to the personal bias of administrative and federal judges, despite more than 47 affirmative defenses in my favor; my case is currently pending in the Ninth Circuit; absent the personal bias of an administrative judge complicating matters, I would have been reinstated to my job back on 05/01/2007. I have more positive things to state, but those thoughts were my current feelings.

I'm a 24 year old male. My family is from Cuba, I was born here in the States. Batman the Aninmated series got me interested in comics and superheros when I was a kid. I like baseball and bodybuilding. I have a four year in fine arts and am currently trying to get my own comic book off the ground. I love film and cinema, right now I'm really digging on Jean Luc Godard. The movie I'm most looking forward to is The Expendables- great cast for this type of movie.

    Hi,
Are there any other web developers/programmers/DBAs here? I've been in the field since 1996. Given the plethora of English teachers and writers, I wonder if there's anyone here in my field.

Was cleaning out my closet and found the old games "Scattergories" and "Scrutineyes". Good times!

I'm curious to meet anyone on the board, but I'd love to meet other teachers here, no matter what country you're in. I teach high school English: 12th grade Honors, IB English 4, and AP English Literature. I'm also an English adjunct at a local university, T/TH evenings.

    Never a dull moment.

Feel free to email me at tchrofengl@aol.com or Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/david.berger

I look forward to meeting you!

I have skills in computer programming and web development; currently, I am designing a website where users can interact with the website.

HI, I'm Justin. I'm 42 years old (nearly), and I'm an I.T. Support Guy. I was born in Liverpool UK, but currently live in Nottingham.

Comics-wise, the only characters I follow faithfully are Wonder Woman, GL (Hal Jordan) and Batman. Otherwise, I tend to follow creators.
    Current fave books are:
    Wonder Woman (surprise...)
    Secret Six
    Criminal
Love & Rockets (SO good to have this back)
    Hellblazer
GL & GLC (Lovin' Blackest Night)
'Tec (Rucka + Jones + Hamner = YUM)
    DMZ
    The Boys
Plenty of Vertigo stuff (Sweet Tooth, Greek Street etc)

Book taste is fairly varied, from Classics to Horror to SF. The big kick at the moment is Classic Crime - American Hard-boiled please; Hammett, Cain, Chandler, Stark etc - Ian Rankin being the only Brit on the list at the moment, cuz the Inspector Rebus books kick serious butt.

Fave films tend to be old horror (Universal, Vincent Price, obscure Euro-horror etc), and classic crime / noir (Bogart is the King!)

Fave current / recent TV: The Shield, The Wire, House MD, Big Bang Theory, and Doctor Who

Current Uber-Nerd Project: I'm currently trying to build as complete as possible collection of original WW issues. Right now, I'm complete (I think; unless I've missed a few more obscure items) back as far as Vol1, #159, and still going. I want to see how far back I can go before issues get too expensive for my finances to cover.

    All hail the Uber-Nerd!

    P+L,
    Justin

I just started reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, which are the basis for the HBO True Blood series (which I am extremely in love with).

I wish I liked Sookie more. (Haven't tried the TV series yet.) A few months ago I checked out a CD of one of the later books, and because I'd read the first I knew pretty much who was who. But this was just awful, like a never-ending soap opera that kept introducing people in each chapter, running through their little scene, and dismissing them. (I noticed later that folks on Amazon didn't like it as well. But it kept me awake during a long drive.)

I like the "Underdead" series by Liz Jasper and hope that more volumes come out soon. The idea of someone having a botched vampire bite so that they're left halfway between being human and vampire, is a funny one.

Currently I'm absorbed in the "Vampire Academy" series by Richelle Mead. Terrific stuff, once you slog through all the backstory in vol. 1. The author has a bit of problems with backstory throughout, but the stories, characters and situation will grab you.

Say, I've posted my very first blog on the Cerridwen Press site today. It's called, "So You Want to be a Psychic" http://cerridwenpressauthors.blogspo...e-psychic.html
, and it's an introduction to the subject as well as a way for me to promote my psychic readings event this Friday on Yahoo. Please stop by if you're interested!

I have to read that. I am a lifelong skeptic with absolutely zero belief in psychic phenomenon, except those folks who admit they are doing magic tricks, rather than actually exhibiting paranormal 'powers.'

Not casting aspersions, Carol, I haven't checked out your site yet. But I'm a firm non-believer after many years of study on the subject.

In other news, I saw Zombieland and laughed quite a bit. Anyone seen any great movies lately?

I also saw the encore Rifftrax PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE event, that was a blast.

I saw Zombieland on Monday. I liked it, humor and zombies is always a good mix.

Before that the last movie I saw was Orochi and I... I'm not really sure what to say about that movie. The sisters where both annoying and the level of abuse there was just crazy. It wasn't the worse movie ever, though I just can't think of enough nice things to say, aside from liking Tanimura Mitsuki's role, to get back to the person who suggested it to me. XP
