Amazing Spider-Man #17
"The Return Of The Green Goblin!"
This issue marks the Green Goblin's second appearence, as well as the first appearence of the goblin glider and the pumkin bomb!!!
Peter daydreams about the Green Goblin. At the same time at a hidden hideout the goblin is testing his new tricks on a dummy Spider-Man. He changes his cloths to civilian but we cannot see his face cause of that classic square thing that maybe is a locker door.
At school Flash announces the Spider-Man fan club, with him as president.
As Peter walks home he sees some costumed people getting on a hellicopter, suposedly after a robbery. Spider-Man then stops them but he realizes he destroyed a scene from a movie.
At the Daily Bugle Jameson laughs at Spider-Man about his stupid mistake. Peter walks Betty home while they find on their way Liz and Flash. The Spider-Man fan club will have its first meeting and Flash put that on an ad in the newspaper, saying that Spider-Man will appear. Peter's spider sence tingles cause the Green Goblin, not on costume walks near him (he does not know why his spider sence was tingling on that man though). The Goblin realizes that he will ambush Spider-Man in that dinner that the fan club will meet.
He leaves and tries to follow him, though he manages to find some other man who is ready to comit a robery. The Human Torch, who sudently appears, stops him. The crowd loves him.
We also see that Mary Jane once again has to cancel tha date.
At the Spider-Man fan club, everyone is waiting for Spider-Man. We can see Jameson, Betty (who once again thinks Peter did not invite her cause he may wanted to go with someone else), Liz and her father (who looks like Tony Stark), Flash, as well as Johny Storm.
Spider-Man appears and the crowd cheer. After a while the Green Goblin appears but Spider-Man does not want to alert the people and plays it like it's an act. Everyone is fooled except the Human Torch.
After a while the Human Torch enters the battle and from that point on, Peter changes from Peter to Spider-Man and back, so as to not alert anyone of his double identity.
The battle continues like that until Peter overhears someone talking on the phone saying that Peter's Aunt May had another heart attack. Spider-Man just leaves the scene, as well as the Green Goblin, and everyone thinks Spider-Man is a coward. Jameson is very happy.
Spider-Man arrives home, after a visit to the hospital questioning why he seems to unintentionally hurt people. "Is this the price to pay for being Spider-Man?", he wonders.

OK, I liked the Goblin's second appearence. This was a great and fun issue. Sure he does not look like a very serious threat, but after that issue I want to see more of him! The glider was a very good improvement.
As for Betty, I am bored of her. First of all I do not understand her relation with Peter. Are they together or not anymore? Betty seems to just be jealous every other issue and does nothing. It does not help to have the same situation happen in two issues in a row.
I also loved seeing Jameson again. Very interested in seeing what nest issue is.

Amazing Spider-Man #18
"The End Of Spider-Man!"
Jameson is very happy that spider-man showed to be such a coward. We see little cameos by the Green Goblin, saying that he is the one to make Spider-Man run, and other villains like Doctor Octopus saying that it could have been him to defeat him. Ironically only Doc Ock is in jail, while Kraven Vulture ans Sandman are out.
Everyone is wondering and thinking that Jameson was right. At Peter Parker's house we see the ill Aunt May and Ann Watson who is named Watkins all of the time in this issue.
Peter needs money to get more medicine so he tries to sell his images to an artistwho makes trading cards. The artist refuses.
Jameson learns of Peter's sick Aunt and in anact of generocity says Betty to senda get well card. He also says not to close the envelope to spent less money.
Spider-Man then tries o sell his web fluid to some scientists but they refuse cause it is not permanent. He then finds the Sandman in his way. He says it is not the time or the place and he runs to escape. This is filmed and shown on TV.
Peter finds his Aunt alone who is saying that ms Watson went to cook for her husband (wtf, I thought she did not have any???). The Human Torch is watching the "fight" with Sandman on TV and frustrated he goes to find Spider-Man cause he knows he is no coward.
He leaves a flaming mesage to meet him in their meeting place (meaning in the statue of liberty, something that happened in Strange Tales annual #1, but Spider-Man does not show up.
Liz comes to Peter house to inform him that Flash is trying to prove Spider-Man is no coward. He put on a costume and went to fight some car stealers. They start punching him and when the police arrives he is dizzy. Peter got there to save him but the polce went there first.
Peter spots Betty with some other guy, who I think is Leeds, but he is not named here. He arrives in despare on his home and throughs his cistume in the garbage. When he goes to check on May, she is not in the wheelchair and the doctor confirms that she is better.
She tells him that Parkers are not as weak as people think and they always try and fight back. The doctor also says that there is no more use for the medicine, so the money problem solved.
Peter goes back in his room and reads the news where Jameson has another article on Spider-Man's cowardice and he changes back to Spider-Man, saying he will fight back, showing everyone that he is not a coward, if this is his destiny... Next issue Spider-Man strikes back!!

Don't forget that somewhere around this time, in Tales of Suspense #58, Kraven and Chameleon return to America but Kraven is immediately discovered and captured by Iron Man, so Chameleon manipulates Iron Man into fighting Captain America, but his plan is foiled by Giant Man and Wasp.

Sleepwalker is Sandman done right. ~Tadhg
This was an issue like nothing else, and I think it may be the first time that there was no actual fightin a comic book! That was fantastic! The issue helped develop more the supporting cast, as Peter's and Betty's relationship is over, as it seems. Jameson is fantastic in this issue, I almost woke up my gf with my laughs. The Green Goblin sees that he will be a more credible threat in the future. Also, Liz is asking Peter to go on a new Peter Sellers movie. I hope they mean Dr. Strangelove but it's probably A Shot in the Dark... Can't wait for next issue!!

I like those little things. I like that they show they are escorted by the country and then return. In addition the Sandman is out of jail for no reason. I guess they put him again in a regular prison so he turned to sand and escape...

Amazing Spider-Man #19
"Spidey Strikes Back!"
The first page is a recap of last issue.
The issue starts with some bank robbers who Spider-Man stops. They thought he was out of action. Everyone is learning about the news. JJJ learns them as he is ready to appear in a talk show. He says he does not feel well and leaves!
The Human Torch is flying above JJJ seeing him hitting a brick wall full of dissapointment. At that time Montana's lasso grabs him. Before he can react Fancy Dan is shoting him with a fire extunguiser. The Sandman appears, as it seems is working with them. He covers him and he can't flame on.
The next morning Peter after school sees Fancy Dan walking on the street. He follows him and discovers the Enforcers' hideout. He fights with them and some other criminals, but they escape.
Then Peter goes to the Daily Bugle and he is introduced to Ned Leeds, Betty's date. Peter is very ok with it, and Betty wonders of he has found someone else.
The Sandman and the Enforcers want to lure Spider-Man to find them and they are planning on doing it with the Human Torch as bait. Spider-MAn is learning about their location by some street thug.
He goes there, sets his automatic camera and the fight starts. Most of the fight is made by him, when after a while he breaks the glass where the Human Torch is imprisoned. The both manage to win the bad guys.
At the last moment Spider-Man accidentaly captures himself and the Torch in his web. The Sandaman though is captured by some cops so everything ends well.
In the end we see Peter followed by some guy, who reports back to someone other.

Though I preferred the first part, that was a nice conclusion to the story. I never considered the Sandman or the Enforcers a serious threat, but in this time period they seem like formidable foes. The team up with the Human Torch is great. Jameson seems like in a while he will reveal his villainous face. Though I am not sure, the mystery guy at the end seems like Jameson, who wants to know how Peter manages to take all those Spider-Man photos. But if I didn't knew better I would have assumed that it is the Green Goblin.

Meanwhile in the year 3000 Kang the conqueror is watching this meating. He believes that now that Iron Man is missing is a perfect oportunity to strike.
He constracts a robot and "trains it" to become exactly like Spider-Man. He thinks that Spider-Man will be a great character as to lore the Avengers. The robot is sent back in time.
The Spider-Man robot knows its nature and has thought ballons. Kang orchestrated a robery as for the robot to stop it. Captain America appears and robo-spidey says he wants to join the team.
Back at Tony Stark's house, Cap is telling everyone what robo-spidey said and Thor says that there are tests to be done before that. The robot is telling them that he has clues as to where Iron Man is.
He tells them that he saw Zemo, the Executioner and the Enchantress husle him in a hellicopter heading to Mexico, so the Avengers are lured in a temple there.

Nice issue. Better than what I thought actually. I can't understand Kang's motivation. He is from the future. He knows how things will tunr out. Though, because it involves time travel I try not to think about it too much, so that way I think he is a great villain. The art is not that great though, I kind of missed Ditko and I am not one of his greatest fans. Interesting that Spider-Man helped the Avengers, though they did not tell him to join (I prefer it that way though). Also, why Tony Stark is considered dead? I have no idea what heppened there...
