    Default Books like Bendis' DD?

I'm currently reading the Bendis/Maleev Daredevil Omnibus V1 and I've found myself nearly finishing it before I have anything else to start. So I'm looking for Marvel books that have the same vibe and feel about them. Keep in mind, my favourite artists are Mike Allred, Eric Powell, Mike Mignola, and now Alex Maleev! So as long as the art and story are good, I'll be happy.

    Any recommendations? Please?

Well I highly recommend Brubaker/Lark's DD Omnibus. Personally, I love their run better than Bendis/Maleev, but either way you really can't go wrong.

I was hoping to finish off the Bendis/Maleev Omnibus V2 before I picked up the Brubaker run. That follows the correct timeline, right?

Bendis and Gaydos's ALIAS. It's very much of a piece with Bendis's DAREDEVIL work (strong character focus, expressive and moody art) and even overlaps with it once or twice.

Definitely second E.D.'s Alias recommendation, and I would just continue on with Brubaker's DD run, which is a natural extension of Bendis'.

I'd also recommend Criminal, Incognito, and Sleeper (the latter from Wildstorm) all by Brubaker & Phillips. Criminal lacks superheroes, but has the noir/grit/crime of Bendis' (and later Bru's) DD.

Incognito and Sleeper are kind of opposite sides of the same coin, and respectively feature a former villain in witness protection and a sleeper agent who has infiltrated the bad guys and found himself between a rock and hard place. If you end up liking Criminal and Sleeper, I'd check out Jason Aaron's Scalped series from Vertigo, which is basically Sopranos on a Native American reservation.

Finally, Brubaker's Captain America run would probably interest you as well, and is fantastic to boot.

Excellent! Thanks for the recommendations! I've been wanting to read Alias for a while so that's a good start.

What I love about DD is that it has the grit and grime of a good tale but still has the Superhero element incorporated into it.

I think I'll definitely check out Bendis' V2 when it's out(does anybody know when it's due?) and Brubaker's Obnibus.

Along with that, I may even try the Captain America book. As you can probably tell, I don't know anything about Marvel. I can name a few heroes and whatnot but if you ask me about writers, artists, and continuity, I'll probably give you nothing in return. So help me out if you can, I'm slowly falling in love with the MU and I'm keen to try more.

Are there any Spidey stories written and drawn in the same vein? I really liked seeing him in the Bendis/Maleev book.

I was like you back in...last August honestly. I randomly picked up the Captain America Omnibus at Books-a-Million. "I always hear good things about this. Maybe I'll read an issue or two". So I sit down in one of the comfy chairs and open it up.

18 issues later, I'm still in the same chair. I couldn't put this damn book thing. It was right then and there, I knew I was about to lose a crap load of money, but I had just become addicted to comic books.

I HIGHLY recommend you pick up the first CA Omnibus(and the second one, whenever that shows up).

Spidey stories are rarely all that gritty. They're usually more soap opera-y and more lighthearted. Despite that, there's some that skew a bit darker, and one that I'd recommend would be "Kraven's Last Hunt", which is arguably the most famous Spidey story of the last 25 years, and certainly one of, if not the best of that time frame.

It was given a new printing in a Marvel Premiere hardcover fairly recently, and even more recently was given a new trade paperback printing, so it should be easy to find.

I have to agree with all the above suggestions.

Bendis's Daredevil: volume 2 (is listed on amazon so will be out soon. Btw, the second half of Bendis's run, whilst still good, isn't as good as the first. The ending is brilliant though and the whole thing is worth reading).

Alias (omnibus is out of print though and the series is being released in two 'ultimate collection' volumes of which only one is out. I would also recommend you don't continue Jessica's story with 'The Pulse' which replaced Alias).

Brubaker's Daredevil (2nd omnibus is not out yet though. I really like this, but most people seem to prefer Bendis' run. In part, I think Bru's DD is overshadowed by Bendis' DD and Bru's Captain America).

Brubaker's Captain America (fantastic run, though nowhere near ending. Is more espionage than noir/crime so quite different. I would say get this before Bru's DD for more variety)

Sleeper/Criminal/Incognito. (All good, only sleeper has finished. I have the first but not second volume and am enjoying it. Up to date on criminal and incognito. Criminal is the best of the three I think I think).

They are all on my pull list or favourite runs (look on my sig).

If I was suggesting the order to go in I would probably recommend:
    Cap (variety)
    Alias
    Bru's DD
    Sleeper/Criminal/Incognito

I would suggest you go for trades in general rather than omnibuses as trades are cheaper (though you may as well get the second Bendis DD omnibus first).

Bendis/Maleev are just starting a series called Spider-woman. Brubaker/Lark have just finished DD and Diggle/De La Torre are starting. There is a preview of DD 501 on CBR and the art is gorgeous.

Bendis and Maleev are teaming up again for Spider-Woman.

The first issue just came out a couple weeks ago.

As for Spider-Man, try Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1 - 12. A really great story showing all that Spider-Man is about, and a bit darker than usual.
You can always try something smaller, like Kraven's last hunt.

I'm such an idiot. I went to my LCS today and I couldn't remember what recommendations were being thrown around in this thread so...

I picked up the Cap America Omnibus and put it back down again. Maybe I'm silly for doing so and I don't know why I did it. I've never had that much interest in Captain America to be honest. I'd like to give his stories a try someday but maybe once I've gotten a few others out of the way first.

I couldn't find Kraven's Last Hunt which annoyed the hell out of me.

I was going to get Brubaker's DD omnibus but thought I'd wait until I've read the second Bendis volume. This comes out in the second week of December as far as I'm aware.

I was really keen on trying Alias but all I could find were the single trades. Thinking I might be able to find the out of print Omnibus on the internet, I didn't pick any of them up.

So I ended up with Marvels(10th Anniversary edition) and a bunch of other non Marvel trades.

    :(
