Looks like Jim Lee drew that second pic of Artemis but obviously it was just "inspired" by him. I swear thats all the 90's was: bad girl action, Lee/Liefeld/McFarlane art ripoffs, polybagged comics and foil covers.
Really cool article: I enjoy the balance of opinion and information ^.^
She's a supporting character it's easy to feel drawn to (totally with you on the hair) and now I want to know even more ^^ I have crazy wicked goosebumps from that panel that focuses in on her eyes, from Secret Six.
It was Mike Deodato.
While I like Artemis, the mini sure was horrible.
I think she'd be capable of a sexual relationship with a man, likely one she considers weaker then herself [which is most in her mind] but I agree in that she'll never find love with a man. She sees their flaws and refuses to forgive them.
I think the main reason Artemis hasn't been written into a same-sex relationship is because she's not your typical 'fan-man' favorite [no matter how much some artists love to draw her like this, it never comes through--no matter who's writing her - that's she a 'fanservice amazon'.
I think writing Artemis in a same-sex bond would warrant depicting a 'real lesbian relationship' that involves feelings, conflict, concern, compassion, and strife - between two women; and let's face-- the majority of current straight male readers may not be 'down' with that. :/
