Aye, it does. Sort of reminds me of the 7 Soldiers of Victory - Justice League of America 100 issue.

Is this going to feature the first "DC Universe" appearance of Samurai?
This has a chance to be great, I just hope it doesn't get too rushed and come out sub-par, like some of the last batch of 80 page giants seemed.
Hopefully they are awesome, as I really love the 80 page giant format when used well -Starman had a great one - although I shudder to think how much they will cost in this day and age.
I'm not you.
So you know I'm right.
Love it. Love the characters. Bride of Frankenstein?! Of all the Seven Soldiers, really? I'll take it. :)
I know Chuck Kim, but who are the other two?
Wait a minute! Rich Fogel worked on the Superman Animated Cartoon.
He was largely responsible for my favorite episodes (Apokolilps Now!).
Was there a Firestorm mistake...?
Or do these take place throughout different periods of time?
Peace.
Have you been trying to get back to the Justice League since you wrote the "JLA Showcase 80-Page Giant" in 2000?
Honestly, that would be a pretty lofty goal. This is DC’s flagship title in many ways, its best and brightest characters all lumped into one book. I just consider it an honor to get to be a part of even a tiny bit of its history. So no, no plotting to get back in, just giddy to be asked.
Lately, the book hasn’t had there best and brightest and the latest issue, the one before James takes over didn’t have the best art. I wonder what is happening at DC. I do believe that Dwayne McDuffie and even Len Wein did what they could but because of writers/editors wanting to take the A-level heroes in different directions in their respective titles the JLA suffered. I find it strange that JLA 0 has the big three discussing the League and now just over three years later the JLA is a club instead of a league. You would think that Batman would have plans in place so this wouldn’t occur, but it seems Batman is powerless against an editor. I am looking forward to the 80 page giant and I will see what James Robinson does with the JLA. Hopefully, it won’t be as slow moving as Cry for Justice.
The Chuck Kim story was definitely the best written of the bunch, followed I think by the Hal/Roy/Cinnamon one, and then the Mari/John Stewart/Shining Knight one. The Superman/Dr. Light one was kind of wretched, I thought, despite featuring a New God (which always earns extra points from me).

It's the current Firestorm. He's just a bit .. pale .. on the cover

"pale ..." and wearing Ronnie's costume. Somebody goofed.
...I should point out that DC dropped the size of the 80-Page Giants to 64 pages , in 1969 when the standard 32-page funnybook went up to 15c , and , IIRC , Annual-style specials from DC tended to be either 64 pages or 96 pages ( I only like to use the term " 100-pager " when it refers to a comic book that is LITERALLY 100 pages of story material or related , ie , a " no ads " one . ) throughout the 70s .
I forget whether DC's earliest Annuals , of Superman and Batman I guess , were 80-Page or not .
Of course , at about the same time , in the late 90s/early 00s , that DC was putting out the new material 80-Pagers , they were putting out Prestige Format slicks reprinting some selected Giants from the past and putting together some nw , all-reprint . " retro " Giants , based upon the " if there HAD been a Giant put together at a certain time..." concept...Any listings for these , please?????????
For another historical point , when Marvel started putting out mixed new material-reprint specials a couple of years after the FF started , they used the phrase " Annuals "...But , by 1966 , they were using the term " Special " , not " Annual " .
That didn't come back into favor until , at least , well into the 1970s .
Sniff ! I'm overlooked .
Also , Marvel's 1960s annuals differed from DC during the 12c era by generally being some mixture of " real " new material and reprints , all-new stuff at their most ambitious , while DC's Giants were , essentially , always all-reprint .
That was until the 15c price-jumping , after which Marvel's Annuals/Specials became all-reprint , as well .
Any got spoilers for this?, i'm thinking of picking it up tommorrow but want to know if it's worth it.
"If at first you don't succeed, try Kyle again!".
Got talked into picking this up this afternoon, so hopefully it's worth the $6.
...Okay, so it didn't take that much talking to convince me. Damn that beautiful Anacleto cover...![]()
