Not really. It's not like NZ is constantly under siege or something. I see nothing wrong with them saying "Sorry, Dad, I don't need your nukes." You really are coming off as some whiny twit all upset because someone won't let the US call all their shots. I think "defense of their country" is their call. Defence against who? Who does New Zealand need nuclear weapons to defend themselves against? And come on, it's clearly not about New Zealand's defence if the US ignores treaties and intelligence sharing and ends the fucking visa waiver over it. New Zealand did not "block the whole US Navy". The US requested approval for a port visit by a nuclear-capable ship; New Zealand asked the US to confirm whether or not it had nukes on board - and the US took its toys and went home.

All US warships are nuclear capable, and the US never tells which ones are armed at any given time, That provison requires the US warships return to the US and disarm themselves before traveling to NZ.

I don't see the connection between intelligence sharing and the US being able to freely dock in New Zealand ports. It's not like that's the only thing that we get out of our relationship with New Zealand.

Or you could actually tell a neutral, friendly nation that's allied with you under a decades-old treaty "nah, we haven't got any" if it's that important to dock in New Zealand.

What the fuck has needing navy ships got to do with joint-forces training and intelligence sharing? They're still terrorist targets and they still might go on joint operations with US forces (and Australians ones).
