    Default Wonder Woman & Superman

Like peanut butter and chocolate, that is to say the combination that springs to mind after you realize you can't get your first combination and actually you might prefer. In the context of the DCU, both the man in the street and fellow superheroes think they're hooking up. Lois was once briefly jealous and probably because Clark was naively dumb enough to tell his wife about how they kissed once, how Diana created a statue that envisioned them together and how she put the moves on him once when they were trapped for a thousand years in a really bad story, er, I mean Valhalla. But beyond that, every time any creator gets an opportunity to tell an out-of-continuity story, he (and it's usually a "he") hooks them up. Kingdom Come, where the epilogue has her pregnant. Distant Fires has humanity destroyed and Superman and Wonder Woman having a son who winds up being the last survivor of earth who is sent by a power ring rocket to another world to start the Superman cycle again. In Red Son, she loves and supports the fascist Superman, only wind up crippled as a result (but that red & black outfit is nice). In Act of God all those with powers lose theirs and after falling into despair and losing Lois, Superman winds up with Wonder Woman and once again give birth to a near god. In Secret Society of Super-Heroes she loves him but never tells him and in Whom The Gods Destroy, Lois is Wonder Woman, so problem solved!

Out of all of these, I thought Red Son came closest to what it probably should be like. Given Diana's worship of Greek gods, what is Superman but Apollo on earth? If the legends are true, he's technically descendant of the Kryptonian god, Rao, who took a human bride to star the "El" family. I don't think she'd every really romantically love him because he was too much like what she worshipped. Similarly, all Superman wants to be is human, so the last thing he wants is a divine, royal girlfriend. The farmboy in him would ironically always look up to her.

And since everything is better with pictures:

When I read your first post I was about to go on a huge tirade about how much I DESPISE this pairing.

Then I saw your second post and I felt much better

To be honest I kinda like the Batman/WW thing back in Obsidian Age and I liked their chemistry in the JL/JLU animated series.

But I LOLed at Bruce's reaction in Kurt Busiek's Trinity when Diana told him that her thing with him was just a "Thrill ride"

You mean you're NOT attracted to a Superman with a mullet, an old man's face and no teeth?

As for Trinity pairings, I think they can be interesting in an Elseworlds setting, but there's always the tendency for Wonder Woman to be written as the trophy/accessory for one of the boys, and not much more than that.

I don't think it makes sense for the current comics versions of the character, but I thought the Diana/Bruce relationship on the animated Justice League series made a lot of sense.

Hey I remember being so excited when Action 600 was teased and then it went nowhere. DC just teased and we got boring old staple of Lois and Clark again. I mean people like the idea of people being happy no problem with that but Lois and Clark is just so boring now. They have written out any tension or anything that can come out of that relationship.

Fact Superman seems rather bloodless since his marriage. The implications Lois took his virginity or that he can't really get off or that he'll worship a dead woman dead for a 1000 years or come back to search for her soul and put it in a cyborg and marry it as in DC 1 Million is just lame. It ironically undermines the so called human aspect that DC claims he needs. And I'm not amazed Lois isn't asking for a divorce with all that she's been through and going through.

Superman and Wonder Woman unresolved sexual tension is what makes it so interesting and I like the similarities and opposites they share...both powerful ,compassionate heroes, same goals, different techniques at times, enough to cause lots of tension, he's an alien but adopted in a world which he knows and loves...she is an outsider learning about this world and adapting herself. He's easy going and very calm. Diana is slightly imperious and can have a bit of a temper. They trust and respect each other. In the real world these two would have hooked up long ago.

When I read Kingdom Come I was like...well this does make sense in a way. Why not? But I understand that would have to be a future scenario. DC can't have two flag ship characters in each others books. No money sense behind it.

So DC will continue teasing us cause they KNOW people are fascinated by this paring and the kids nowadays are not purists and bogged down by tradition. Why can't heroes fall for heroes? Isn't the hero with garden variety human the thing that is cliched? Oh well maybe we can see more of the KC earth cause that's the best we can hope for.

I thought the BM/WW thing in JLU just childish and just Timm being batfanboyish and adding Diana to the list of women who supposedly falls for the Bat in animation. (lois, selina, zatanna, even batgirl..ugg) Diana was a tool in that. There was very little dignity given to her in her hormonal school girl pursuit of Batman who was so sweet to hold her off. Not to mention if Diana was in Batman's world he would be redundant. She'd wipe the floor with half his villains.

I think I might be the only one who actually likes to see Diana and Kal show some affection. So who cares if the stories are written by a male? For years I've known that the right woman for Clark is Diana. And I've wished for years that Lois might die, just like in Kingdom Come.

And the original poster forgot to mention their relationship in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Strikes Again, in which Diana is sick of seeing Superman lament all the time and she pummels him. And his reaction to all of this? taker into space and make love to her. Nice

And I wish we could get Gail's reaction about this.

You're not alone. I'd much rather Diana date Superman as opposed to Steve or Tom.

I see Superman/Lois as one of those couples that you see in the real world that look like they just shouldn't be together. For the life of me, I just can't see why someone as powerful as Superman would fall in love with someone who just isn't on his level.

Clark and Diana would be great together, too bad that they're just friends!

One of the interesting things (one of the few interesting things) when this relationship was covered in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" is that Clark specifically tells his and Diana's daughter, Lara, that she must never have physical relations with a human - they are just too fragile. Which implies that he never had physical relations with Lois, though he is seen mourning her after her apparent death in Brainiac's attack on Metropolis.

In my own case, I think that the Superman/Diana pairing makes a lot of sense. Not to take anything away from Lois, but Diana and Clark are very much alike (as others have pointed out) in important ways and would make a good, compatible couple. (Of course, she is willing to kill and he is not, so that could be a dealbreaker).

As I've said before, Diana is too emotionally healthy to fall for Bruce Wayne. There is no reason to think that she would ever be attracted to someone so emotionally stunted.

And this, just under the whole 'Diana being used as a trophy for Bruce or Kal, is one of the main reasons I dislike Trinity shipping(or, more specifically, WW/Supes). What's wrong with having two characters who are good and have a happy marriage together stay together? There's seriously something wrong with a ship when you wish to break up a marriage or kill off a character to satisfy it.

Even if something did happen to Lois, why would Superman and Wonder Woman automatically be paired? Because it's what always happens in Elseworld type stories? Honestly, I find that a bit lazy. 'Oh here's two characters with similar stats, they're made for eachother!' As though that wouldn't be boring and completely ignoring how they're just really good friends with a lovely relationship in that regard.

I don't understand what you mean by 'his level'. What level is that? He might be a Kryptonian who saves the world on a regular enough basis though at the heart of it he's a farmboy from Kansas. Sure Lois doesn't match up completely with Diana(and who can?) but that doesn't mean she isn't a smart, interesting, and gorgeous woman in her own right.

Sure Lois is a capable woman, but I've never thought that she was good enough to be a mate for Superman.

I just think that superpowered people should date other superpowered people.
