Default Wonder Woman and the Star Riders

Is anyone else familiar with this aborted girl's toy line and animated series centered around Wonder Woman?

Details are here. The line never saw the light of day, save for (and I love this sort of fascinating oddity) a single DC promo mini-comic included with a Kellogg's product.

Obviously, there are several conceptual problems here (Diana doesn't need a "Wonder Wand!" And she should have a kanga, not a unicorn!)

But... I think they're missing the boat by not having Wonder Woman featured in something like this, targeted at young girls. I have a 6-year-old niece who would love to have something like this toy line!

Actually, I wrote a major article about it for:

    BACK ISSUE #16 (May 2006)
    — Greatest Stories Never Told: "Wonder Woman and the Star-Riders", article by Andy Mangels about the aborted toy line, comic book, and animated series! (8 pp.)

It had loads of never-before seen art and photos, including a lot for the other mini-comics that were not released and some that were not published! I own almost every piece of art from the project, although there are some that have eluded me.

And that issue is on sale for half-price right now at www.twomorrows.com !

Ooh, neat, I've been looking for an excuse to buy up some of those Back Issue back issues!

I think it should be given a second chance, at least in comic form.
With the end of Supergirl: Adventures in the 8th Grade, this would be a good replacement

    I read about this.

Dolphin and Ice (but not the Dolphin and Ice from the comics).

    Purrsia was the villainess.

    Why not Cheetah?

Somewhere in one of my storage boxes, I have customs of the characters based (loosely) on the images I've seen of this toyline. I personally would have loved a cartoon like this for girls. I saw somewhere there were thoughts of adding other DC heroines to the line if it succeeded. Alas, we'll never know!

They should bring Solara and Starlily into the main DC Universe.

Seriously, I'd love to see Wonder Woman train a bunch of superheroines who aren't Wonder-themed; a bunch of colorful female characters, like the heroes of the Great Rebellion in She-Ra.

When I moved to my new house last January, I was going through some old comics and found the WW and the Star Riders comic (mentioned above). Personally, I thought the idea was weird when I was a kid, and I think it's just as strange now.

Hm, sounds like it could have been interesting. Kind of surprised it got chopped, or they at least haven't used WW to get at this kind of audience.

    "Wonder Wand." LOL

Still, this could have potentially been a good way of introducing Wonder Woman to a new generation of young girls, even if it would have probably just ended up becoming one of those lame childhood cartoons everyone laughs about watching in adulthood. The '70s series isn't getting any younger!

I have to admit, I would totally buy that comic... unfortunately it's apparently somewhat famous for the anomaly it is, and the only ebay listings for it are from Lone Star, who have it priced at $90 or more. I guess that's one I'll have to live without!

Apparently, the problem was Ye Olde 'Girls Don't Like Superheroes' chestnut; stores decided the toys obviously wouldn't sell and didn't order them and since orders were so dismal, they cancelled the toyline and tie-in cartoon.

Kinda a mixed bag, though. On the one hand, it would've given Wonder Woman more publicity and a higher profile. On the other, can you imagine trying to work that into the DC Universe?
