Before I actually read this article, I just want one question answered. Why the fu@& do we need a Wonder Woman movie like our fu@&!ng lives depend on it? WHY?!
Over on the DC Wonder Board there are at least 4 or 5 threads on the front page about casting the movie, dead-end leads on news and people giving their two cents on how they want the movie to look EVERY DAY. I honestly can't stand it and I feel it feeds into the view that Hollywood has of comics as being ready-made story boards with no regard whatsoever for the content or characters involved. Nevermind that more often than not comic book movies are big giant stinkers and colossal wastes of time and money. Only in the last 5 years or so has the quality improved somewhat, but that doesn't excuse all the previous bombs. Why have moveis become the be-all end-all for media and comics especially? Does a comic not have a legitimate existance as a piece of art or entertainment unless there's a fu@&!ng movie in the works? Seriously people, I'd like to know what everyone thinks on this.

Honestly? Because live-action media are FANN.

The answer that first comes to mind, is that movies have become the media that reaches the largest audience. This does not make other forms less artistic or meaningful. But movies have firmly established themselves as the number one entertainment of choice for the entire planet.

Peolple read less and less, the music industry once the most important in terms of reaching young people is dying, a successful comic sells about 100,000 copies tops, even video games once thought to be the new thing has seen sales decrease.

But movies still facinate people the world over. Of course, even that industry has to adapt to survive changing socio-economic turmoil.

But what you might be failing to take into consideration is that the interest and respect being shown the comic world by the movie industry is fairly new, dating back to the first Blade film in 98. Before that Hollywood made campy, silly versions of comic fare and thought they were for children.

So for most comic fans, this is fairly new and they would like to see their own favorite character on the screen before this popularity fades.

Is it too soon to start speculating about the WW reboot movie that will come out 4-5 years after this WW movie finally sees the light of day?

Consider both Superman and Batman have had tons of movies made about them WW should be shown the same amount of respect.

I'm gonna sit in a corner with my fingers jammed in my ears until this blows over. I've had enough of the Sandra Bullocks and Whedons of the world thinking they can do such a bang up job and making asses of themselves. Sick of it.

    Heh, thanks guys

So far the responses I'm getting seem to be "because movies make more money than comics" and "because we feel like it". That's great, but niether of those hold water for me personally. I watched an interview once with Wonder Woman's own George Perez where he was commenting on the changes comics sometimes go through to adapt to their movies.
"Comics have low self esteem" he said and went on to say that as the source material comics shouldn't have to bow to the more popular media to justify their own existances. If anything, some of those movies would have been better if they'd been more like the comics (I'm looking at you, Catwoman!).
Ultimately I don't think a Wonder Woman movie is needed, but more Wonder Woman comics are! How many books do Supes and Bats have between the two of them? How many titles are Spidey and Wolvie occupying these days? Count them all, its absurd! If a Wonder Movie never happens and we get a second or third Wonder Book because of it, colour me satisfied.

For many people Batman and Superman only exist in the movies and on tv. Most people do not read the comics. Batman and Superman have been a big part of pop culture. Wonder Woman deserves to not only have the same respect but to be brought to millions of people (especially young girls) who don't read comics but need a role model. We need Wonder Woman in this world so little girls can stop having Paris Hilton and Bella from Twilight as role modes.

Despite a lack of exposure, WW is a big part of pop culture. Imagine is she had a well made movie!

Also, it would just be awesome to Wonder Woman kicking ass.

That's a good argument spark, especially since I LOATHE all things Twilight, but why should a movie be the vehicle for promotion instead of comics? Why aren't comics marketed more vigorously especially considering that the two leading publishers are now owned by the two biggest media conglomerates around?
My boyfriend and I had this idea that comics (specifically kid-friendly titles) should be sold in toy stores right next to the action figures they've inspired. Its such a logical move one has to wonder why DC (or Marvel) hasn't jumped at the chance to do this.
Movies are popular, we get it, but its time to bring comics back to the popularity they enjoyed in their heyday and who better to be in the forefront than Wonder Woman?

I'm sure the idea has been approached but didn't come to fruition for whatever reason (i'm sure Diamond would have something to do with that)

Great ideas however it doesn't work. There are many people who see comic book movies who think comic books are dumb and for nerds. Many people have NEVER read a comic book and yet judge them harshly. My BF told me he always thought comics were a 'low form of entertainment with crappy stories and a low standard of art" until he met me. He would see the mountain of comics I own and the TPBs and he started to see that some of the art is beautiful and the stories can be touching and quite good. He didn't get that they were more then something to read in passing. He saw how connected I was to some stories and characters. He even asks me whats going on with WW now. But, without me he would have had this low opinion of it.

Also, many parents won't allow their kids to read comics. I wasn't as a young child. My mother felt comics were very sexist and made women into sexual objects and didn't want me to have those feelings about women (lol, well, I'm gay, so it worked lol jk). But again, she now gets my love of the medium and doesn't mind them.

Comics are a hard sell. Movies can bring comics to so many people. But, they should be good movies, not just made for money.

I am a feminist to my core and I truly feel girls need positive role models. They aren't looking up to Hillary Clinton, they have Miley Cyrus do strip teases at 15. They need something better and Diana is the woman to do it.
