While I know most of the world goes ga-ga over the idea of Joss Whedon Wonder Woman, it left me cold thanks to a series of statements he made regarding the character, not the least of which was casting shorter actresses for the role. Amazons should be tall! And not "tall for a woman." Tall, period. After all, weren't they "created"? Why should they be bound by the "average" standards of the rest of the world. Darwyn Cooke actually went the extra mile and suggested that Wonder Woman would be taller than Superman, which even a die-hard Superman fan like myself enjoyed:
The only other instances I've ever seen of Amazons being...well, "amazonian" in stature were the DC Universe Holiday Special where Wonder Girl was shown towering over Robin and Grace, the Outsider who was revealed to be part of the Bana-Mighdall tribe.
What do you think? Should Amazons, Wonder Woman especially, be exceptions to the rule where all women are drawn shorter than men to distinguish them as truly being "different"?
