Default Is anyone slightly underwhelmed by Blackest Night?

I know I could be ruffling some feathers here, but I needed to put it out there. I'm aware that it is only 2 issues in, but I'm just not feeling it. I wanted to love this so much. At the back of my mind I was thinking "What if this becomes just another zombie story"?, but my faith in Geoff Johns to turn in it to much more was always there. Unfortunately it is starting to feel like just another zombie story to me.

For my money there was nothing like Johns' Green Lantern since its inception, up until the end of Agent Orange. The BN tie ins though have seemes rushed, boring and lacking in the art department, and have gone to the bottom of my list. each month. I am still reading it and will hope that I find something redeeming in it as it progresses, but I do not feel good about it.

The only Johns book I have really enjoyed in the last few months is Adventure Comics. I find Flash Rebirth to be boring as well. I love and respect Johns as a writer and he has written a lot of my favorite super hero stuff, but I truly believe now that he is overworked and it is beginning to show.

Sorry to those BN enthusiasts I have offended, and I hope I can change my mind.

The Green Lantern title looks lacking in the art department to you ? I know its difficult to fill in Ivan Reis' shoes but Mahnke's art has been great IMO.

And which tie in has been boring so far ? I thought I was not going to enjoy the Superman and Batman tie ins and even those have been good. The latest issue of Green Lantern was totally about the war of light. Which part of it has been boring exactly ?

I'm enjoying it, I just wish it was more contained within the Green Lantern world, if you like. There's a number of characters from other series in the DC world popping up that I'd never heard of. I'm fairly new to comics so I guess for people who have been reading a variety of DC comics for a while it's a blast.

I feel like it's still being set up. I'm hoping they'll get to the real action by #3.

so far yes it seems pretty dull. I wish it was just contained within the 2 Green Lantern books and if needed, bring in Superman and other DC heroes towards the end only with 1 or 2 one-shots. But I am hoping the story picks up steam as it is still early.

I love it, personally I love everything Johns has done since IC (didn't love IC that much)

Compared to Final Crisis, it's a literary triumph.

Sorry but we are only two issues in. You don't reach the conclusion of your story in the first act. The first act till now has been extremely well done. Lots of stuff is happening, heroes are dying and the threat seems very very real. Issue 3 will be the transition book, the one that will exit the first act and enter the 2nd. I'm sorry but thats how a story is told and so far it has been great. Blackest Night is too big to be contained in the Green Lantern books. If you have the zombie stuff happening in the GL books, there will be no space for the war of light. Thats why I think its a good decision to let it be a DCU event.

I thought the prelude in Green Lantern #43 was awesome, but then on the first read through of issue #1, I thought the plot was a little busy, jumping to too many characters in little snippets. The stuff with Hawkman at the end kept me interested enough to keep reading.

I also enjoyed the next issue of Green Lantern, but again felt the second issue of the main series jumped around too much. However, having seen how all of the tie-ins are expanding on all the little snippets of action in the main books, I've enjoyed my second reading of all of the issues up to this point much more.

I haven't really been underwhelmed yet by the GL stuff.

My expectations for it weren't as high as a lot of other people and it seems to be coming along at a good and even pace and nothing really feels rushed or too slowed down. It seems like it's gearing up into something big such as the debut of Nekron so structurally it's very deliberately ramping up and letting things happen.

Flash Rebirth on the other hand, is another story.

I'm loving what going on with Blackest Night so far it's shown that this finally seems like an event that is planned correctly with the GL titles supporting the main book. Also I don't get the this is just another zombie thing, first off these aren't zombies secondly we're just 2 books in with the BL attacking the heroes we've just scratched the surface with where this is going.

Yes, you have company. There are things about this that just aren't working for me. That said, I did enjoy the latest GL issue.

I think I would like a war of the rings/war of light better without all the zombie black lantern stuff. Still time for the series to turn a corner and change my attitude toward it but I'm not expecting it.

I freaking love everything that's happened so far. Everything about this event has been done well and for a reason. None of the tie-ins have felt forced or unneeded. They're good extentions, especially the Titans stuff with Hawk and Dove!!! And I didn't even plan on picking up the Supes or Bats books, but quick flip throughs in the store coupled with the stuff in the main book intrigued me enough to pick up both, and I'm glad I did!! I really hope you all give Blackest Night more time to change your minds, I have faith that it will!!

It is hard to say if everything is being done for a reason (except to increase sales of DC merchandise) when we don't know within the story why any of it is occurring. Why are all these characters being raised from the grave in such twisted versions of themselves? What does that Solomon Grundy issue have to do with anything else?
