Everyone please welcome Aegisbearer as the Wonder Woman board moderator!


When I started this board, I didn't want the temptation of being Mod. It's too easy to be in a bad mood and make bad decisions based on the moment, and I knew that if I was the mod, it might be seen as unfair, which is the last thing I wanted. The whole idea is to create a nice, comfortable, fun and interactive place where the posters add what they like, not another creator-run board dedicated to someone's ego.

So one of my favorite folks, Michael D'Alessio, suggested Aegisbearer, who has been a long, long-time WW reader and poster here and elsewhere, and that immediately seemed like a perfect fit.

Aegis was chosen because he is unfailingly kind, generous and mature, and doesn't ever seem to get involved in dumb stuff like I (and the rest of the world) occasionally do. He is an educator in real life, and treats everyone with respect and intelligence.

He is the moderator and his decisions will be followed, please. Many of you folks know that I have another board here at CBR that has very little moderation and sometimes gets quite rowdy. We're hoping to keep personal insults and flame wars and such away from this board. If you're prone to such things, please take a moment and ask yourself if it's really THAT important.

Aegis will be here not to censor or to ban folks except in ridiculously extreme cases, but to hopefully gently warn folks if they get too obnoxious (as we all do, especially me, from time to time), and yes, he gets to tell me when I'm messing up just like the rest of you. ;)

We'll keep this thread up, and if you have mod questions or questions for AB specifically, or suggestions for future content, put it all in here, okay?

Aegis, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hey! I'm Aegisbearer, and as Gail said, I am a high school English teacher and an adjunct English professor at a local university. I appreciate the kind words, Gail, and I hope I can live up to those expectations. All I want is an environment where people respect one another's beliefs and opinions. I don't think that it's that difficult to be a good person to others, even though we're shrouded in anonymity here on the Internet.

Greek mythology has been a love of mine since I was very young, and I became enrapt with Edith Hamilton's, Mythology, a book I have bought many times over the years simply because mine falls apart from so much reading. From there, I grew to love comic books and, eventually, Wonder Woman. She is the epitome of all that is good and just, an exemplary figure regarded by many as a paragon of honor, respect, and virtue. Even though she is a fictional character, she represents so much. I'm honored to be the mod here, and I will be fair and impartial, as I am sure Diana would be.

If we all play nicely, then I think this place can be a fun arena for for discussion and vibrant argument (the kind where we show respect to everyone's opinions). Just because we have the right to speak our mind doesn't mean we have the right to deride, abuse, chastise, or minimize other people's ideas.

Everything we do is a choice, and choices have consequences. So, choose wisely. And, let's have fun!

I am also a fan of Greek mythology, aegisbearer, and I have read Edith Hamilton, although not very many times and not for several decades. What other books have you read on the subject? Any particular recommendations?
