    Lightbulb Yet Another Remake... {I AM NOT A NUMBER!!!}

So... The Prisoner gets another go around...

The date of this clip is from July, so I guess this has been in the Internet Ether for quite some time. But I just only now found it.

I'm not sure I'm complete on board with James Caviezel as the lead actor (although the further into that preview you get, the better he seems), and of course the tone is totally different from the original, but its also not quite as bad as I'd normally fear something like this would be. I mean its the basic conceit, but turned in a totally different direction (less of a "why are they doing this to me" thing and more of a world where the other characters actually seem to be as confused as good ol' Number Six).

Also, Ian Mckellen? Always awesome, and he seems very good as "Number Two" in this footage. And Lennie James back on my TV is a good thing too (he was the single best thing about "Jericho").

But... AMC? Talk about an odd channel to be on. I know they've grown enormously because of "Mad Men", but still...

It was my favorite show by a mile when I was a teenager. I dunno if I agree with your assessment concerning Number 6's role--he was kind of a 'snake in the garden' in the original, and I seem to remember a couple of instances of him getting others to 'half-remember' things--then be re-programmed--but it's been a long time.

While Caviezel's no Patrick McGoohan (who always looked like 'the lights were on'--like what surrounded him was a problem to be solved) as an actor, I look forward to it.

THE only reason I'll watch this show is for Ian McKellen. Being a huge fan of the original, I look at this new attempt through extremely critical eyes.

I loved "Nowhere Man", which was basically a huge riff on The Prisoner, so I'm willing to give this a go. Certainly a captivating trailer.

I'm sorry, but that's a really insulting thing to say. Confrontational, and I have to say quite jerkish.

It's natural to have doubts about a remake, but that doesn't mean I've dismissed it. Far from it if you read my initial post.

Well one good thing from this is that you can see the original series on amc's official web site for free.

I thought you were talking about FAME. Because that's coming back as a movie.

I guess we'll always remember the name...

Well, in the next few months alone... (and I'm sure the actual list is FAR bigger than this--these are just the ones I've been thinking about...)

    -Fame
    -The Prisoner
    -V
-The Witches of Eastwick (on ABC... WHY would they BOTHER?)
-Various Horror Movie Remakes (aren't they all virtually interchangeable even BEFORE they remake them?)
-Tron Legacy (it's more of a sequel than a remake, but even still...)

And the 2010/11 rumors (some solid, some not)...:
-Heathers - Worse yet, as a TV show. Does. Not. Compute.
-Teen Wolf - Seriously. MTV is making this into a TV series. Yuck.
-Clash of the Titans - Yeah, I don't know WHY either... but apparently its already "in the can". Then again, Liam Neeson is playing Zeus and Ralph Fiennes is Hades. That could actually be interesting...
-Karate Kid - Renamed as "Kung Fu Kid" and currently being shot, with Jackie Chan as the Mr. Miyagi figure and Will Smith's kid as... the kid.
-Meatballs - supposedly due in 2010.
-Conan The Barbarian - expected in 2011.
-Even MORE Horror Remakes (I know "A Nightmare On Elm Street" is one of them, and Rob Zombie wants to remake "The Blob")
-Short Circuit - Another "why"? Wasn't the first one torture enough?
-Footloose - It was supposed to star Zac "Disney Boy" Effron, but he dropped out. But its apparently still happening.
-Dune - Yeah, there was a TV miniseries too, but here's a third shot to screw it up...
-Logan's Run - Who knows where they get these 2010 dates? I doubt we'll see this one...
-Death Wish - 2011 bullcrap date on IMDB. Supposedly starring (even in his dotage?) Stallone.
-That rumored "Buffy" remake without Joss Whedon...

    Here's a laugh...
-Yellow Submarine! Date: sometime in 2012. Yeah. Riiight. A bit more Googling shows this is something Robert Zemeckis wants to do. Lord knows why. But he's got Disney behind him, so... it could happen.

Rumored projects which are stalled... (some just because hey... bad idea...)
-Fahrenheit 451 - Tom Hanks was supposed to star in this but backed out.
-Escape from New York - Gerald Butler was supposed to star in this but backed out.
-Westworld - Tarantino was supposed to do this, but backed out. Then again, at one point further back Michael Crichton was supposed to write it (oops!) and Arnold Schwarzenegger star (oops!).
-The Birds - Naomi Watts was supposed to star.

    International "remakes":

-NBC is supposedly making their own version of "Prime Suspect". I'm willing to bet WITHOUT Helen Mirren.
-Primeval, the fun UK dinosaur series will be mauled, no doubt, by Warner Bros as a movie. Our old enemy Akiva Goldsman once more enters the fray as the rumored producer (how many projects can this hack do at once?)

And a million more remakes I don't know anything about (and am probably glad not to...)

So much Hollywood greed on display. If we're lucky, 10% of these won't be totally disgusting (assuming they even happen).

Having watched all three seasons, it'd be hard to mess that show up, as it's already pretty weak.
