Default Please Introduce Yourself! (if you haven't already)

Welcome, everyone, to the Wonder Woman thread here at Comicbookresources.com!

For a long time now, I've noticed that there's no central gathering place for Wonder readers and creators to all gather in a fun, comfortable manner, despite several valiant attempts elsewhere.

CBR allows us lots of tools not available at some other boards, like image posting, easily searchable archives, and lots more, that I think will make for a much more fun and interactive experience.

Additionally, many creators are already familiar and comfortable with CBR, so that hopefully will encourage them to visit and interact with readers.

Most importantly, this board is not meant to be about me, or about my run on Wonder Woman, but instead is meant to be about all aspects of the Wonder-verse, and all her incarnations. Everything from the Golden Age, to the television series, to her forays into animation. In particular, I'm hoping that we will be discussing not just her most recent issues, but also the many previous classic and overlooked runs of the past.

We'll be bringing script excerpts and sketches and original art and sneak peaks, as well as some surprises in the coming days. I think you'll like what we have planned, but the board really is for you guys, so if you have suggestions, please let us know.

    A couple quick housekeeping notes.

First, many of you already know our moderator, Aegisbearer. When picking a mod, I was hoping for someone fair, good-hearted, and objective, who also knew his stuff when it came to Wonder Woman. Aegisbearer is one of the nicest people I've ever met on the net and I'm sure you'll like him as much as I do. Please be as helpful to him as you can be, which means, even if you disagree with a poster or hate a creator's work, try to be civil about it. I really think that's the least we should all expect of other Wonder readers. That goes for all the creators as well, including me. I will try my best not to be obnoxious!

However, Aegis is NOT here to prevent criticism. All civil criticism is welcome. I just ask that people maintain some politeness, especially with our guests and new posters. Heated discussion is fine, personal insults are not. Many of you know I have another board here, You'll All Be Sorry, that is quite a bit rougher in the content allowed. This board will be more like the other boards here at CBR, with helpful, not oppressive, moderation.

Additionally, we are hoping that the boards work for everyone, so please try to keep content at around a pg-13 level at worst, okay?

Finally, for this to be a success, we really hope to have everyone's participation. If you see something WW-related, please let us know. If you've created a Wonder art masterpiece, post it here. If you know of a great Wonder-link, please add it to the Links thread. Above all, we want your thoughts and opinions and Wonder stories. For legal reasons, working professionals cannot read fanfic, but feel free to post links for others.

That's it. Please feel free to stretch out and put your feet up on the table. I think we're all going to have a good time, so thanks for visiting and I hope you'll make it a regular stop!

    Nectarine pit necklaces for everyone!

Please take a moment to let us know a little bit about you. Only post what you feel comfortable with, but we'd love to know where you're from, what you do for a living, and maybe your brief thoughts about why you like Wonder Woman!

    Thanks!

Please note that the awesome sk716 and Sally Sensational have made up some very cool new Wonder-avatars for use here, for new and veteran posters. They should be up already for use.

Go to "user cp" in the top left of the screen, then "edit avatar" and check DC avatars. There should be lots to choose from!

Just to piggyback off what Gail said, I am definitely not here to prevent criticism. On the contrary, I WANT people to criticize, discuss, banter, joke around with, and converse about all things Wonder Woman. Readers have so much to offer, and I am thrilled to be able to be a part of this to see what my Wonder-peers have to say!

    Reposted from "Meet the Moderator":

"Hey! I'm Aegisbearer, and as Gail said, I am a high school English teacher and an adjunct English professor at a local university. I appreciate the kind words, Gail, and I hope I can live up to those expectations. All I want is an environment where people respect one another's beliefs and opinions. I don't think that it's that difficult to be a good person to others, even though we're shrouded in anonymity here on the Internet.

Greek mythology has been a love of mine since I was very young, and I became enrapt with Edith Hamilton's, Mythology, a book I have bought many times over the years simply because mine falls apart from so much reading. From there, I grew to love comic books and, eventually, Wonder Woman. She is the epitome of all that is good and just, an exemplary figure regarded by many as a paragon of honor, respect, and virtue. Even though she is a fictional character, she represents so much. I'm honored to be the mod here, and I will be fair and impartial, as I am sure Diana would be."

I'd also like to add I'm a fitness fanatic, a budding novelist, an amateur caterer/chef, a graphic artist, and an avid reader. :-)

    Hello, fellow Wonder fans!

    J. Torres here, writer currently working on Wall-E for Boom and Batman: The Brave and the Bold for DC, plus some graphic novels for Oni Press.

Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to write three issues of Wonder Woman and the Wonder Girl miniseries.

I live just outside Toronto, Ontario, Canada with my beautiful wife and darling son (turning two in December). I used to play a lot of video games (but not so much since the kid arrived), should read more (again, kid), love the outdoors if it involves sand and water, and I also love to travel and meet readers.

Thanks to Gail for the invite!

I'm Mark Waid. I gave Gail her copy of the Wonder Woman Encyclopedia and know full well in my heart that she's still only up to the "G"s.

I live in the Fortress of Solitude, Los Angeles annex, and am the Editor-In-Chief of BOOM! Studios comics, publishers of IRREDEEMABLE, INCREDIBLES, CARS, THE MUPPET SHOW, FALL OF CTHULHU, and literally dozens of other titles.

I am probably the most beloved man in all of comics.

My name is Brian, and I'm a library technician from the Pittsburgh, PA area.

I fell in love with the Wonder Woman character when I was a child, through watching the TV series (as is the case with most fans in their 30s & 40s), and have been following her exploits ever since.

I have many interests and hobbies, though unlike aegisbearer, I'm anything but a fitness fanatic!

    Hi, Im Ofir from Israel.

Can't say I like WW or not as I never read a solo comic of her, just wanted to say that it's cool that CBR open forum to other DC character other than Bats or Supes. Weird it's not GL though.

    Thumbs up Hello everyone!

    Pleased to meet you.

I'm Robert, but everyone calls me Bobby. I'm an aspiring writer born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, NY, where I currently reside. I'm currently working on draft # I forget of my first novel.

I'm also the webmaster of the blog site Son of Baldwin, a pop-culture/political/socio-sexual homage to one of my favorite writers, truth-speakers, and spiritual mentors, James Baldwin.

I'm an avid reader; I've been collecting comics for something like 34 years (since I was a wee lad of 4); I love good films (though I generally prefer watching movies at home to watching them in the theater), I love good cartoons; I couldn't play a video game if my life depended on it; I'm generally very discriminating when it comes to music; and I'm addicted to HGTV.

I've been a Wonder Woman admirer for about as long as I can remember. Wonder Woman represents all the qualities to which I aspire (intelligence, wisdom, peace and an abiding love for humankind). I'm REALLY looking forward to this message board and conversing with other readers and creators who adore Wonder Woman just as much (or more!) than I do.

ATHENA BE PRAISED! And Pele, too!

I am Anthony and I live about 2 minutes outside of Philadelphia, Pa.

At work I deal with solving problems with technology, graphic design through the lens of a marketer. I am an enormous nerd, from the streets. (Will Smith and I grew up in the same neighborhood.) I've loved comics since 1974 when I bought my first, an issue of Wonder Woman.

I spend my life with my man and our 5 cats trying to enjoy and not sweat the small stuff.

My screen name is a tribute to a friend. I hope you guys don't mind a long post about it, feel free to skip past it!

In the early 1990's, 20-something me walked into a diner restaurant in downtown Philadelphia. It was New Year's day and the annual Mummer'S Parade (Google that to see something fun) was going on, so the city was packed and so was the diner. I chose this diner because it was in a gay area and my cousin worked there washing dishes. It was owned by a gay couple and so you could be open about who you were at work.

I walked in and the owner recognized me as the dishwasher's cousin and yelled, "Hey Dishwasher's cousin! Ever wait tables?" I had so, I innocently answered yes and 10 minutes later was covering 10 tables in the place. After that day, I worked there 1 or 2 shifts a week for 7 years for extra money. Almost the whole time, the Sunday brunch shift was mine.

On that shift, there was a 60-something year old cook. (It was a small place. A full staff was 6 people max, but most times there were 2 (cook and 1 waiter.) The cook I always worked with was named Thom, but insisted that everyone call him "Mother". For the first month working with Mother was a nightmare. He treated everyone kinda roughly, but to me he was absolutely cruel. At first I just took it, but after a month, I went to the owner, named Bill, and said I was quitting. I told him I couldn't take the treatment anymore.

He asked me to give it a couple more weeks to see if he could straighten it out. He went back in the kitchen to talk to Mother. Mother was a fixture in this place --so I knew he wasn't going anywhere. Bill explained to Mother and they started screaming at each other. Basically, this was there relationship. They were extrememly close friends, but if they weren't screaming at each other, they weren't communicating. It got really loud and ugly, then quieted down. So being the person I am, I snuck as close as I dared without being seen (everyone, including Bill was afraid of Mother -think Endora from "Bewitched") and heard Bill say "But he's real honey. That's sincere".

I found out from Bill, that Mother took my always happy, always friendly, ALWAYS bright side demeanor as being phony. And he hated phonies. Bill talked him into giving me another chance and from there, our friendship grew really strong and we got to be as close as any other friends could ever be. Mother was a gruff guy. One of the first times I ever saw him outside of work was walking to the subway in downtown where I had to walk past a row of gay porno theaters known for the male and transvestive prostitutes to hang out. In the middle of a row of thuggy guys and scary trannies, was Mother looking for a rough guy to pay for sex. He saw me from across the street and called me over and while he shuffled what was obviously an unwrapped role of quarters from one hand to another, he said, he everybody, this is my friend Boo Boo. (Mother nick named everyone and I lucked out as, for example, my cousin's nick name was "Princess Gwendolynne.") If you see him go by here, you don't mess with him. He's one of the nice guys.

When we were at work, I would tell Mother about my boyfriend and my life at home. He treated me like he was Marlon Perkins and I was a merecat on Wild Kingdom. To his 60 year old mindset, you didn't have love and steady boyfriends -- you paid tricks to have sex with you. He wondered over my love life, like I was from Mars and he wanted to visit --yet he knew the world I lived in was too foreign for him. I loved talking to him, cause I couldn't really do that with my own parents, so having a Mother and Father figure in one was kind of cool.

One day after 3 years, my boyfriend cheated on me and we ended up having a bad breakup. I was devestated and depressed. Moped around for weeks. And one Sunday, I started to cry at work and couldn't stop. Mother took me into the storage room. He told me all the right things: more fish in the sea and being better off without the bum, etc. He told me I was very lucky, to be able to have had a love. To be able to be open about it, to live with the guy as a couple. He said he liked seeing that younger folks were able to have real lives and love and lamented that he was born so early and that he had to be closeted and how that framed his life. I don't remember exactly, but he said something to me like "Some of us are just dealt a badhand, and we have to play it."

Shortly after this, Mother was diagnosed with AIDS related dimentia. Basically, he just stopped coming to work and no one could get in contact with him. About 3 weeks after he missed work, he called me at home and told me that he hadn't been feeling well and had been forgetful. At this point, no one I knew was aware of his diagnosis. so I tried to comfort him by saying we all get forgetful, etc.

None of us ever heard from him again and 2 months later, we found out he had died --on my birthday. Bill found out that he had basically lost all of his memory. That he'd been staying in his apartment for the 3 weeks because it was so bad, he didn't know how to get to work and didn't recognize his family when they finally came to check on him. Yet, somehow he had remembered me and called me.

Since then, I've always used the handle Delta Badhand (dealt a bad hand) on all message boards as a way to remember this man who taught me so much in life. Knowing him gave me the gift to really look hard at folks and be able to get in their shoes and not judge them --and also to revel in what's important and in enjoying precious moments.
