Default Some Kyle Rayner questions .

Ron as a fan of your GL run in the 1990's I hope ya don't mind me asking these. If your busy I understand .

1.) Many detractors claim Kyle Rayner was a failure. That his sales weren't strong and they point to the final issues by Ben Raab and Judd Winick as proof. But to many of us Kyle fans , we point out that you stayed 6 years on the book and could have likely stayed longer. And if sales were in the crapper ...DC would have changed course. Whats your word on this ?

2.) Did you have a way to revive the Corps and Kilowog had you stayed on Green Lantern instead of going to Crossgen ?

3.) I always read you were mandated to basically have a new Green Lantern by #50 . Is that true ?

If your too busy Ron to answer and all...I understand. But as a fan I came along when Rayner was GL.

    1. My word is ... people who like Kyle will find sales statistics to support his success, while people don't like Kyle will come up with a wholly different set of sales statistics to show his failure. And since most people involved in the discussion have no idea what they're talking about, it's all pretty moot.

I was actually on GL for 7 years, and for most of it, according to the figures I regularly saw, GL was one of the 3 or 4 best-selling monthly DC titles. You can't really compare sales of different eras, because the comic market as a whole was in good or bad shape, depending on the era.

During the Raab run, sales bottomed out, though still well above the standard cancelation threshold. Sales went back up with my 6-issue run that finished up volume 3. The decision to end volume 3 was much more story-driven (to make room for Hal's return) than sales driven.

    2. Yes, I planned to bring back the Corps (though a much smaller one than exists today), but not Kilowog.

    3. Yes, the story outline I was given by DC editorial called for a new GL to be introduced at the end of #50. However, the creation of who that GL was, his costume, etc., was left to me and Darryl Banks.

I know I wasn't the one who asked, but thanks for answering those! I am a HUGE fan of Kyle, and he will always be the Green Lantern I think of when I think of Green Lantern. :)
