    Default CBR Forums acting weird....

In YABS we all have started noticing that the forums are acting weird. At some points pop up ads are happening. In other cases the forums suddenly direct you to some ad online off the forums. Bouncing you . And at other times a message box pops up "Do you want to navigate away from this page" at times here.

Just recently , seconds ago the forums tried to kick me off to an ad. My anti-spyware kicked it and stopped this. Blocking the ad. But slowing things way down for seconds.

Is there something wrong with the Forums now ?

    This is a know issue.

Some bad ads got placed onto the site (most likely via the ad network that CBR uses).

If this is still happening, please contact bugs@comicbookresources.com with where it is happening and if you can what ad is causing it.

    Bad ads! BAD, BAD ads!

Really, some ads go WAY overboard in trying to steer people away from the site they're browsing, and toward what they're advertising. Pop-ups, sound effects ... all really, really, annoying.

If they thought they could get away with it, they'd have this really loud voice say over and over "What are you doing browsing THIS site, which really sucks by the way, when you could be browsing OUR site and learning more about our product?"

I could go into a long, protracted rant about bad web advertisements, but I think I'll keep this short. Really, you should stay away from any product or business that feels it absolutely necessary to disrupt your web browsing with pop-ups, sound effects, redirects, and other stuff. Make it clear to them that this does NOT help them sell their products. All it does is ANNOY people.

They keep finding new ways to annoy people and piss people off, and make it IMPOSSIBLE to avoid their stupid advertisements. I can recommend ad blockers and so on, but I'd rather not post them here ... the obnoxious ad makers could be listening.

I think 'Thou shalt not obstruct others' views with advertisements' was one of the 15 Commandments ... but it was on the tablet Moses dropped on the way down, and was never shared with the ancient Israelites.

I was starting to think it was just me and my computer. It's frustrating as anything when it happens, but at least I now know what's going on.

Now Im relieved that nothing is wrong with my computer I have to ask could the site be hacked or something?

Pop ups are one thing but this is ridiculous.

The thing is, I have Ad blockers and all that crap. Somehow they're taking control of the window that I'm using to view CRB forums

    *edit*

And a redirect just booted me to google.

Okay, I'm getting redirected to pages while the window's supposed to be doing nothing. Can we get someone on this already?

I was redirected from Yabs (while doing nothing) to a Spike TV: Why playing Madden is better than watching a real game.

Than the first time I was trying to post this, I was sent to a white pages/yellow pages ad. Am sending the second email now.

Hey folks, we're aware of the problem and working on it with our various ad networks. The problem is that when these types of ads show up, they're snuck inside different ads and often times the ad networks themselves aren't even aware of it. If the problem ads are not found soon, I'm simply going to remove all our remnant ad providers until they can find the problem ads.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

OK, we're getting to the bottom of this. We've turned of all external ad networks outside of Google AdSense on the forums. We're going to slowly turn them on one at a time over the next 10 days or so, one a day, to try to determine which network could be causing these problems. We should know immediately once we turn on a network whether or not it's the bad one.

Thanks for your patience as we work through this issue.

Thank you. Of course, there might be more than one 'bad one', so keep that in mind.

As of now there should not be any ads running from the one problem ad network we employ. It took a lot of reworking of our remnant system, but not only were we able to isolate the one network, we have a lot more control moving forward in how we can selectively turn them on and off.

If anyone notices more pop-ups or redirects or anything unusual from our advertising, please E-MAIL the webmaster@comicbookresources.com account -- posting here is fine, but we're far more likely to see the problem sooner if e-mailed.
