I haven't been following NUDefenders, but for those that are how exactly is fraction treating him? Is he really focusing on the martial arts aspect or does he retain some mystic qualitys?

Also, hate the new look, he's just not Dr Strange without the cloak :(

i haven't seen him use martial arts very often. he had a sorceror battle and relied mainly on his wits.

Thus far in Fraction's Defenders, Strange hasn't gotten physical except once, and then it was a "I will bash your head in by main force" attack on a beastman when both of his arms were encased in concrete. But I'm sure we'll see him throw down, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Fraction's portraying him as a sharp-witted intellectual who is prone to occasional lapses in judgment. I'm not crazy about Fraction's take on him, but it's very readable and far better than Bendis' version of the character.

I agree that he needs his Cloak. But the new look is growing on me. So much better than the tan trenchcoat or the green duster

I liked the Sise-Neg story quite a lot. There were some really good runs in the various Dr. Strange solo books. (Some stupid stuff too, of course, but that happens.) I used to think that the Dr. Strange writers had a lot of freedom to tell really weird, good stories because Strange's stories tended to be off in their own little corner, pretty much disconnected from the rest of the Marvel Universe for the most part.

I totally agree. From the initial Ditko/Lee through volume 3, Dr Strange occupies a pretty unique space within the MU, and I think you're that allowed many writers and artists to do some of their best work on the title. Every book had its peaks and valleys, but there's not a lot of valleys for Doc-- I'd say that Wolfman/Starlin stuff that followed Englehart's departure, the Claremont run I mentioned earlier, the Quinn stuff in volume 3. Even things that I thought would be bad, like Gillis' Strange Tales run, turned out to be pretty solid stuff, and while I'm not exactly crazy about Roy's return to Doc with volume 3, those "Book of the Vishanti" backups he did with JM Lofficier were great and really showed the "good Roy" who had to put everything into a linear narrative.

True. I remember Wolfman brought this up once. He said he didn't put in Spiderman in Tomb of Dracula because it would ruin the atmosphere. Doc stories usually are dark, mysterious, werid and lovecraftian.

On the list. I'm trying to talk down a guy who has an amazing run on ebay, but it doesn't look like he's going to go down, but if he doesn't, as soon as I can afford it, they are mine.

Hi there! I just checked out Essential Doctor Strange vol 2 for the proto Defenders story, and was reminded of what an AMAZING artist Gene Colan was. Am seriously tempted to go find Essentials DS vol 1 and read all the stories!

In a Marvel Q&A at SDCC, Bendis said his last New Avengers story will solve the question of who is the Sorcerer Supreme.

I left off where Brother Voodoo was the Sorcerer Supreme, outside of Doctor Strange and Voodoo, who else qualifies?

I thought Daimon Hellstorm was Sorcerer Supreme now? Don't know if that's accurate, just read it on the boards... heard it happened in Journey into Mystery.
