What I'm really looking forward to is Brendan McCarthy's Dr. Strange mini, but if Tomm Coker is joining Waid for his mini, I'll definitely pick that up as well. Coker is a very underrated artist in my opinion.

I think this thread would have more flavour if it were just called 'Strange Appreciation'.
I don't mind paying 3.99 for this mini. I'm just glad there's some new Strange stories to read.
I think it's a bit rich that for ten years or so I've been reading claims that the Sorcerer Supreme/ Dr Strange, is too powerful to support a successfully written ongoing series.
So eventually they rob him of the powers of the title; well ok, that's fine, I suppose.
But Marvel then gives the new Sorcerer Supreme, Dr Voodoo, the ongoing, and Strange gets the tiny mini.
I'm disappointed that it is a mini. Hopefully this does well so it can show the powers that be at Marvel that Dr. Strange can support an ongoing again.
I was thinking of starting a thread on this but the Doctor Strange Appreciation seems like a good spot.
Doctor Strange's appearance, and by this I mean his face, (which naturally of course varies a little with each artist.) has often had a slight asiatic look to it.
At first a pondered that perhaps Strange could have a little Chinese or Tibetan in him.
But on pointing out to friends Ditko's first Dr Strange stories they althought his appearance more in the nature of the west Finno Ugric peoples, ie Hungarian (one thought Transilvanian) Sammi, Slavic etc.
Still predominantely caucasian but with an ancient add mix from the races of the north asian steppes.
And I think they're right, their judgement bullseyes his appearance much more closely.
However in later stories his family (and of course his English name) have been pretty firmly locked down as white Anglo saxon protestant from the mid-northwest.
He could still have say a Hungarian, Polish or Estonian grandmother but is it stretching things a bit far? When even as a full blooded hungarian (by some illustrations) he would look notably asiatic amongst Hungarians.
So I wondered where is a wasp family living for some time in the mid-northwest most likely to gain a semi-asiatic look.
And then it came to me, Native American.
I looked up as to which of the native tribes would most accord with Strange's appearance and the Sioux Indians with their slightly greater height, longer faces combined with strong jaw, nose and high flat cheek bones seemed the best choice.
By some fluke, chance would have it that the Sioux are actually present in Dr Stranges home state.
Dr strange's father had blue eyes, and his mother must have carried the gene for blue eyes. So he couldn't be more than a quarter Sioux but when you factor his mother's pale skin, she's unlikely to be half Sioux.
So I propose That Strange could be anywhere from 1/8th to 1/32nd Sioux from either his father or mothers side.
I think 1/16 would be best as it allows and explains the artists freedom to show a semi-asiatic look or none at all.
1/8th might demand a little more constistency and 1/32nd might be never noticable at all.
Any judgement on this?
There is a Dr. Strange story in Strange Tales #1 out today and heres a link to a preview page of the new Strange mini.

Doctor Voodoo would be my guess- with Stephen filling an "Aincent One" role.
Though Wiccan wold be more interesting to me- nothing like having an aprentice who's soul might be part of Mephisto or just something his crazy mom whipped up so she could concieve with a robot.
Anyway- this guy is NOT the real Doctor Strange- the real deal is strolling around in a red jacket and sunglasses, fighting the good fight in secret from his Soulforge (with Sister Nil) while this doppelganger he's made interacts with the MU at large.![]()

Sad that Marvel had to rob him of his Sorcerer Supreme title to have an excuse to put together another story for Strange. I really enjoyed The Oath by Vaughn and I have my fingers crossed that this mini will be just as entertaining. Hopefully enough to warrant an ongoing! And revitalize Marvel's mystic/magic scene along with Brother Voodoo.
