I've read 'Season one' and it's...not good. More needless retconing and rewriting of what I consider one of the best origin stories in Marvel. A bad attempt to make Doc, Wong, and the Ancient One hip and modern. Sofia was an interesting addition and Doc's actual training was alright, but the over all story and changes to the character's histories are not worth it. Not as bad as JMS' Strange but not really needed either.
He was the sort of person who stood on mountaintops during thunderstorms in wet copper armour shouting "All the Gods are bastards".

Dr. Strange Season One felt like comic book version of Rush Hour.

It's Pak. *shrug* It doesn't bother me. Actually, I prefer this version of Wong (long haired bishy Wong? Yes please), but I do agree that Strange is less of an action hero and more of diplomat than this showed. Remember though,he's an apprentice here, not the Supreme Sorcerer, so he gets to do more of the grindy, drudge work anyway. Strange does need to lose some of the grungy and sarcastic and pick up more of the delicate and graceful, however at this point he's pretty much at a low point in his life.

Wong is...problematic in his classic form in terms of coming across as the yellow servant guy to the white man. It's easy for a new fan to be turned off by it, so making Wong a much stronger character and showing his role as vital (always was, but new fans need to see it upfront) is really important.

Agree, that coat is pretty neat. And a belated Welcome, Indian Ink.

    Thank you.

I think I might prefer Emma's coat to Strange's present costume. Her design has a simpler elegance, the current one is a bit fussy around the waist area and although it mostly works as a piece of graphic design, it's not only hard to see how it makes sense as a physical garment, it also seems to suffer from a bit of visual confusion; are those gauntlets part of the gloves? Are those tabs under the sash buckle part of the sash; part of the coat? or part of his trousers/hose? And for that matter, is he wearing hose with boots or trouser/slacks with shoes? Which I think is why every artist seems to draw it differently.

Dodging this thread for a little while because I'm still waiting to read his Season One, but I whined at Hickman on Formspring and got a hint:

Doctor Strange has been conspicuous by his absence in all the Marvel NOW promotions, and both of his titles are ending in November. Could you please tell me if he will land somewhere, even if it isn't one of your titles?

    Hasn't been announced yet.

That's a nice non-answer. Could you ask him if Marval has any plans to bring Clea back out of the annoying "out of sight/out of mind" limbo they've exiled her to for the last several years, and if they don't plan to, why not?

I'm a bit of a newcomer to Strange, but I've always been interested in him. Got The Oath a while back and quite enjoyed it, but was planning on getting some more soon. The Season One for him is one I'm planning on, but does anyone have any opinions on the Into the Dark Dimension trade that is out by Roger Stern? I've always enjoyed his work, but wasn't sure.

And does anyone know the name of a Strange story I've been trying to track down for a while, but cannot remember the name of for the life of me. It was black and white if I recall correctly and had a rhyming spell battle between Strange and Dormammu.

I haven't read Hickman's Druid in SA, but after seeing what he did to Ultimate Thor via science not exactly crazy about Hickman going near Strange.

There are still February titles to be launched so we might hear something next month at the NYCC (3 weeks from now).

That said, George R.R. Martin said he would like to write Doctor Strange if given the opportunity and Marvel promised a few things. Can't argue with a guy who looks like a traditional Wizard

I haven't read George's work since the late 80s and no HBO so I don't know Game of Thrones. That said, I like the way he thinks and jokes.

It'd rate it as a vintage Stern Strange colllection. It's not the strongest stuff in his run, but they are good stories, particularly if you're also a fan of Dane Whitman. Great art from Paul Smith. Well worth picking up, but I'd recommend checking on Essential Dr Strange, vol. 4 first to get the build-up to the stories in this issue.
