Does this mean that Bryan Singer might end up directing another X-men movie?

This really is great news, as long as they let Christopher MacQuarrie be Christopher MacQuarrie.

The problems with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, from my point of view, was that A> the story was just above average and B> the execution was well below average, specifically the quality level of the special effects. I've maintained that IF the special effects were better, where the audience rarely if ever noticed "Hey, that's an effects," that the enjoyment level of the film would be much higher. It's clear that they pulled back on their effects budget a bit and that's a shame. The film will not age as well as a result.

Now that Fox has seen what a Wolverine movie can do even in spite of a leaked copy making its way to the Internet, I'm hopeful they're serious about making a high quality Wolverine film from start to finish. Beginning with MacQuarrie is a good sign.

    I agree.

But I would rather have a bad Wolverine film, then no Wolverine film at all. Sooner or later, one of the X-Men films or their spin offs has to be good, right?

Hold on to that hope when the Magneto film comes around.

Now they decide to follow the source material? They couldn't have just done it with the first movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Christopher McQuarrie is to write the sequel to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and that the storyline will be based on the classic “Wolverine” graphic novel by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Hugh Jackman will of course return to star in the feature, which is set in Japan, as teased by one of the post-credits endings of “Origins.”

McQuarrie, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay for Byan Singer’s “The Usual Suspects,” also collaborated with Singer on Jackman’s first Wolverine film, “X-Men,” for which the writer declined a screen credit.

According to THR, Jackman and McQuarrie met to discuss the film and were inspired by the themes made accessible by the Claremont & Miller story.

Wolverine Origins was really really bad.
I hope they make up for that a god-awful film.

Jeez, X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn't that great, but the thing was practically the Godfather compared to the other garbage blockbusters we got this summer...Transformers 2, Terminator Salvation, GI Joe...

Happy to hear that we'll most likely get an improved Wolverine film.

    Cool! Looking forward to it.

I just hope this time they work Wolverine comic mask into the movie somehow, without altering the design too far from the original wolvie mask design. I've been itching to see it in the movie.

Probably not. He just signed on to direct a new BSG movie (completely unrelated to the Sci-Fi series that just ended).

He could produce, though, given his friendship with McQuarrie and his involvement in the X-Men franchise (wasn't he a producer on X3 and Wolverine?)

As long as Fox still makes these films, I have very little hope that they will do the material justice. Sorry to say I will not be seeing this film.
