The Marvelman announcement is all good and well, but it doesn't tell us what is coming out or when it is coming out.
I wish Marvel were a bit more specific about what they are re-printing and when they are releasing it.

They don't announce stuff like that because their usually late putting it out.

Fairly good read, but why are Marvel so scant on details? There should be a warning on the front page that this article contains no new information on Marvelman from Marvel, like RCA had to do with the "there is no actual music on this LP" label for Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music.

There lacking in details, because they're still working them out, there is a whole load of crap that they have to go through before they can properly reprint all of the Marvel-Man stuff.

Can't say I'm interested in the family titles crossover approach. There isn't a single family of titles that I buy. I don't really want to buy New and Dark Avengers just to know what's going on in Mighty, or a slew of x-titles just to know what's happening in X-Factor (I've already feel burned after Messiah complex).

I'm interested to see what's going to come of Marvelman, but I'm not getting excited yet. If they announce Gaiman and Buckingham returning to finish off the Silver and Dark Age stories then I'll get excited.

Money getting tight = me probably dropping any family books I don't read the entirety of (most of them). Thanks, Joe.
This just in: Chris Sprouse has pulled out of Orson Scott Card.

I knew about Miracle/Marvelman and his significance in the industry in passing prior to the announcement, but I've never read a single story featuring the character--probably because of the legal tangle.

I'm quite excited to get to meet the character face-to-panel finally. I hope that Marvel reprints the original stories ala Essentials and Masterworks, reprints the Moore/Gaiman work and then let's Gaiman and Buckingham finish their story. Then reinvent the character for current generation.

I don't know how I would feel about integrating him in with the rest of the Marvel Universe. They could, and probably will. But I think wrapping up his last series then rebooting the character is the best idea.

I agree. Marvelman as part of the Marvel 616 universe wouldn't really work at all. Plus Marvel already has Sentry in 616, a poor man's Marvelman. Allowing Gaiman/Buckingham to finish their story and reprinting the Moore stories would be ideal.

Rebooting the character could be interesting. I'm not sure how well received it would be. Marvel/Miracleman was a groundbreaking series and it would take something really special to reach those levels of greatness. Comic fans can be pretty harsh if something doesn't live up to their expectations.

Joe Q says that his inbox is full of Marvelman pitches. I mean, having Gaiman and Buckingham carry on after they wrap up their original slate of stories would be great, but they're much more in-demand than they were in the 80s.

If they found someone on par with Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore to reboot Marvelman, then I think it would lessen some of the tension. Though you will always have detractors.

While Marvel now own the central rights to the character they cannot reprint the 80s material without the creators allowing them to. Gaiman's on board. Buckingham seems keen. Alan Moore has previously said that he'd have no problem with having his stuff reprinted, providing Mick Anglo saw the financial benefit of that.

But there are other creators to get in touch with. Some who may only have done one issue. Heck, Chuck Austen event did Art on one issue. No really. You read that right. ART.

When all parties have been spoken to, amd an agreement reached, there will be a reprint announcement. And a big one. But they're not daft enough to announce something until those agreements have been reached.

Tell me about it. That actually concerns me greatly. If they 're going to use Messiah Complex as an example of how to do a crossover RIGHT, then it's going to be a BAD crossover, in my opinion. One which derails all the books for a story which goes nowhere, and achieves nothing. Messiah Complex was one great big waste of readers time and money. Even now we've still not received any conclusive answers to who/what the Messiah Child is, or their importance.

Me too. I still think that one is more of a When than an If, but I'm trying not to get my hopes built to high.

I see where you coming from totally. With hindsight, the Messiah Complex crossover story is weak because we still don't know the girl's identity. BUT Messiah Complex was an enjoyable read. When it was coming out I loved it the whole way through, and I recall it getting a lot of positive comments.
All the books seemed to coordinate really well with MC.

I have no desire for "family" crossovers either. I no longer buy all or most of family books like I used to. I still read X-Factor and X-Force, but I will drop them both if they veer off into a crossover with a book I don't already buy. I haven't checked but I think X-Force is about to do that with Hulk. So I guess soon I am only getting X-Factor.

X-Force is going to be in Hulk, but its not crossing back over to their book.

There is a X-Force/New Mutants/Legacy crossover staring in October called Necrosha, so I guess you're out of luck there.
