Thankfully that was just an illusion and not really her, but I hope she is far away from the Bendis book. And yes, if written in character she would totally burn him, or at least heat up enough to make him let go even for a few seconds.

Ugh, she'd totally light his ass up for daring to touch her without permission. She'd do that to anyone, even her friends if she were bothered enough. So much potential, as the haughty strong-willed elementalist/Storm of the group. (One of my favorite things about her, she's the one who's always able to break out of mental/emotional manipulations due to sheer strength of will alone) I don't understand why writers have such difficulty portraying her In Character. Although, to be fair...they've been having trouble portraying Storm too pre-Wood, so I guess it'd make sense.

As for this series being done with - respectfully, I disagree. There's no pressing need to have them 'graduate' onto bigger squads, because they've graduated ages ago. They're not X-kids, they're X-men. Their title should be treated the same as Adjectiveless, or Astonishing or Legacy, just another book about an X-men squad, doing their X-men thing. Except in this case, the X-Men in question AREN'T characters that show up in 3 other books at the same time, so it's a positive change of pace for anyone who isn't interested in the typical Wolverine/Cyke fare. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't let DnA ruin your perception of them with their abysmal run! Yeah, that book sucked and deserved to be canceled a thousand times over, but the NMs still have plenty of room to grow, plenty of places to explore, and plenty of untapped potential as a younger X-Men squad who's really the perfect amalgamation of all their teachers and represents the best of the 'The Dream'. As Xavier, Magneto, Cable, and briefly Emma's progeny. They're supposed to be the future, and should be treated with respect as such.

If anything the New Mutants and characters in their age bracket (Kitty, Rachel, Rogue, Meltdown, Warpath, Madrox, Siryn, Skids) have done better at living up to Xavier's dream than the previous two waves of X-Men recruits and any generation that came after.

The best thing that came from this title, aside from the wonderful Zeb Wells stories, was seeing certain characters move from the title into the "big league" titles. I believe that Magik, Cannonball and Karma are now seen as standard X-Men members, which is great. Arguably, Cannonball already was. Moonstar can't be far behind.

Part of the problem when Zeb Wells left was most of the more popular characters moved on as well. Moonstar was left with characters that were not as strongly developed. X-Man and Blink did not help in my opinion. I am not sure adding the Hellions in would assist the situation. What would be the motivation?

To me, the dynamics work best with Sam and especially Illyana on the team. I would rather see both of them continuing to move forward in the bigger titles.

I do love the relationships between the characters! I think it would be best for them to be explored throughout the X-titles they are on. Unfortunately, some characters have a bigger chance of playing prominent roles in titles than others. That is true of any team.

Heck, who else besides Pixie really gets regular screen time from the New/Young/Academy X-Men? Husk and, to a lesser extent, Chamber from Generation X are sliding by with supportive roles. Monet is doing alright in X-Factor. I am pretty thankful that half of the New Mutants (Magik, Cannonball, Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Karma) are currently vital characters in the comics.

You do make a good point. What would this book do in the near future............

I have an idea, but I doubt many will like it. With an ongoing of mutants and humans coming together and the New Mutants realtionship with another team, how about they move on to a rehashed New Warriors or X-Warriors book? It could be the primier team of the younger generations book. Having Moonstar meet up with Justice and Firestar and Cypher, Warlock and others could be fun story telling.

If all the X-Men are becoming Avengers, why not the New Mutants become the X-Men?

That's what I'm thinking too. Magma obviously puts herself on a pedestal, so if anyone pissed her off (which should be very easy) they're getting her wrath full force. It doesn't seem that hard to write her honestly.

I wish I had the patience to write fan fiction, because I would definitely do something New Mutants-centric.

I asked PAD about the possibility of some of the New Mutants moving to X-Factor in today's X-Position:

The October solicitation left me feeling sick to the stomach. I'm incredibly excited for Breaking Points, but the thought of anyone (besides Alex) leaving X-Factor is gut-wrenching. With Darwin appearing on the horizon, I'm sure he'll be there to help make up the numbers, but is there a chance that any upcoming vacancies might be filled by other characters? New Mutants is coming to an end, might it be time for Rahne to rekindle some old friendships?

Well, A2, you're assuming that Rahne will be part of the team's final composition. If she does, then I think it's safe to say that some of the old crew from New Mutants might swing by.
Vague, but promising. PAD is about the only person I trust to salvage Doug. He wrote the very moving "Tribute the Second" story in one of the NM annuals, about Rahne visiting his grave while he watched on as a ghost. Bobby and Warlock were in Fallen Angels with Jamie and Theresa too.

I would die! PAD is definitely one of my favorite comic writers, if not the favorite, and I think he would handle some of the New Mutants very well. There are actually a lot of connections that the New Mutants have to X-Factor-- I always saw Madrox and Terry as the NM-generation anyway. Along with the two examples you stated, we also have Terry, Dani, and 'Berto who were all in X-Force. Then there's Rahne, who's connected to everyone. Apparently, Dani and Monet also know each other. I'd also like to see Tabitha again. Okay, that's enough for my daily NM rant.

I'm getting antsy. I wish they would announce how the NMs are going to live on in MarvelNOW! already. :c

Although, the persistent silence around their future makes me think they may be with Cable in X-Force.

Many of them will likely be spread through the X-Books. A new team might emerge with some members. At this point, it is hard to say. I think certain members have a higher probability of being in books than others, sadly.

Three times now, and each with the utmost politeness have I asked Tom Brevoort what the future holds for the New Mutants on his Formspring. Of course, he's not obliged to answer, but for someone whose standard response is "wait and see", his reluctance to say anything at all is troubling. Yesterday's solicitations revealed that Avengers Academy is going to be cancelled, and already he's confirmed that its cast have something in the offing. It's been a month and there's no news. At this point a blunt "no plans" would be welcome.

I wonder if any of them'll show up from time to time in Legion's X-Men Legacy.

I think there's a slew of new titles coming in December and January. November seemed to be their month of relaunching their premiere titles, like the solo books of the Avengers, after AvX. The lesser known things like the Cosmic titles, whatever book had Wiccan and Kid Loki, and anything involving the NM and AA students will probably be something completely new and will come later. (Or this is the hope that I keep clinging too.)
