Yeah, it's sad but true. Right now, when you only have about two big name characters (3 if you count Cassie), a lot of people are automatically turn away. Take the 90's Teen Titans. It certainly wasn't a bad book, but it was a group of newly created characters, and then Ray Palmer. To me, Robin IS the Teen Titans. You just can't have the team without a Robin.

Costume fail. Ouch. Looks cool, but non-functional.

I don't blame DC for trying something new with the Teen Titans name. They were trying to blaze some new ground. And had they used the Atom in 1994 , and did the series coming outta Zero Hour where he was de-aged and all....its likely it may have worked best as a launching point.

By the time DC did do Teen Titans and made the Atom a vocal point , it was 1997. And thats 3 years that passed from Ray Palmer's big change. Plus DC had let New Titans under Wolfman limp to cancellation a year earlier. And fans had a bad taste in their mouths from it.

So combined with all those factors and new characters fans were supposed to get into...I can see why it failed in 1997.

I had thought it was a simple t-shirt she was wearing and not a metal WW on her chest. Never knew ...

From what I understand, DC actually had a contest where fans voted for a new teen hero to join the team, and Robin won. However, before they could write him in, an editor axed the idea because of the plans for Young Justice or something.

To me, that kinda says that Titan fans want a Robin.

Actually the contest from what I remember had Captain Marvel Jr win. It was on that Titans website I believe. He and another character won and joined the team at #16. To try and increase sales. But it didn't work .

You're right, CMJr. won by default after Robin was disqualified. And yeah, the book still tanked.

The current title is still above cancellation level, but it could be doing so much better.

This is the same kind of crap as Wonder Woman wearing an outfit with BIG POINTY SHARP PIECES on it (her tiara, her breastplate, AND her belt). Another instance of "costume fail" which people deign to overlook.

Really, a lot of stuff with Superheroes boils down to "it looks cool". In any practical sense, it's usually total nonsense.

Maybe Titans should be one $3.99 series with the teams rotating the lead feature?

    Why are you making sense?

We can have twice the meandering stories about beloved characters!

Actually since Robsinson's JLA seems to be Dick, Donna, and (potentially) Kory, I wonder what the point of the Titans (no Teen) book is.

It's very weird to me that such great characters can't hold a consistent high quality book together (whether it's Teen Titans or the Titans).

Maybe the Titans will go back to this team with the big guns in the JLA?

After all, if there is one thing Blackest Night will do, it's bring back Pantha.

This is exactly how it should be. The original archetype of Teen Titans was "super hero sidekicks hanging out". The "mentoring" idea this series launched with very quickly went the way of the dodo, and rightfully so. The Titans shouldn't be about being taught by anyone older - it should be about kid heroes, hanging out and having adventures, with little to no adult oversight, and growing and learning.
