Default What should I get signed?

    Hey guys,
New to the forum - and pretty new to collecting in general. Thanks in advance for any help.

I've been reading TPB's for year, and just recently have moved into actual collecting - I'm going to be attending a "Blackest Night" event this weekend and will hopefully have an opportunity to have Geoff Johns sign something for me.

My question is this... what should I have him sign? I have plenty of comics that I'd love for him to sign - but what would be the most valuable in the long run... GL #1? Flash: Rebirth #1 Variants? Blackest Night #1?

What about figurines? A Slurpee cup?

I tried to purchase some original GL Carlos P. page art but it couldn't be shipped here on time.

    Any ideas? Thanks very much.

I would say get signed what you want signed. What things do you have that would be special for you to have his signature on? You know, something you would keep and "cherish" if that doesn't sound too cheesy. For me it would be as simple as having him sign one of my JSA trades since I love his JSA stuff.

Can you tell I'm not a big fan of "collectibility for the sake of dollar value"? To each there own though. Have fun!

    Thanks for your reply.

To clarify: I'm not planning to run and attempt to sell this on eBay to make a quick buck - this is more about taking advantage of this opportunity to create something rare and valuable.

I would have him sign a large check made out to you. That should have some personal value in it and bypass eBay all the way.

"Rare" and "valuable" are two terms that no longer hold any relevance to comics. They don't appreciate in value like they used to. So anything you get signed will simply be an autograph, not a tool to create any value. Like the other poster said, get signed what you want signed. Not what you think is going to appreciate, cause it aint gonna happen.

Thanks for clearing that up guys.

I think I'll go with my GL #1 or #6 ... and maybe a slurpee cup.

Keep in mind, many collectors view a signiature as a FLAW, not an added incentive.

(the collectibles created with the seal of authenticity being the exception).

a Signature *you* got will have special memories. . to someone else reading the issue? Someone took an pen and marked the cover in ink -- a flaw.

That said, if you insist on getting your comics signed, I'd try to get a picture of him signing said comic -- pretty standard for autograph collectors. That can serve as your "certificate of authenticity".

    personally?

I'd have him sign a TPB, and probably the Slurpee cup.

keep the comics in mint/near mint.

I'd get him to sign a copy of Mark Waid's first issue of Flash - that would be aces. And I bet you dollars to doughnuts he wouldn't mind.

But if you really wanna suck up to him - Stars and STRIPE #1.

how much stuff is considered a good ammount to get signed? I probably got a close to 100 issues by Johns in my collection, but even with just trimming it down to #1s and milestones I still got 2 dozen. is that still too much to take at once?

Personally, I would say limit it to 5. There are hundreds of others looking for an autograph, and you monopolizing his time for 10 minutes while he signs 25 books isn't fair to them. Be considerate.

I've been to cons where they limit you. That they'll only sign 2 or three. Be prepared. You might run into this too.
