Default Where do you rank the DareDevil/Bullseye rivalry?

When I think of great rivalries obviously the one that comes to mind is Batman/Joker. Kind of the creme de la creme. Where do you feel Bullseye/Daredevil ranks. It, to me, is a fantastic villain/hero rivalry. In fact, colorful and silly as it may seem, I've always felt Daredevil has an overlooked rogues gallery. Mr. Fear is cool, Owl has a ton of potential, and even some of his lesser known villains like Buschwacker and Bullit were quite interesting and often complicated and conflicted characters.

To me there is something quite special about their rivalry. Bullseye seems like he could honestly just be a henchman, or someone like Taskmaster, who functions as sort of an all purpose threat, but he really found a niche' with DareDevil, and thankfully he's not a copycat villain like Venom or Bizzaro. His "power" set is both different and complimentary. He's like DareDevil in many ways but also fundamentally different in many ways. Also, much like the Joker, he seems more interested in besting his foe rather than simply sucker punching him one day.

So where do you rate it? With so many classic stories and great moments in my opinion it might be almost as good as the Joker and Batman.

Bullseye is a great foil for Daredevil, but I think it suffers a bit since he isn't Matt's true archenemy. That'd be Kingpin.

I'll second that. Bullseye was a great nemesis, but not really a foil. He was an ruthless, amoral character that I'm glad is gone -- he was just too one-dimensional to be savored. Kingpin is really Matt Murdock's true opposite. And Kingpin is downright Shakespearean compared to most other villains that DD comes across.

Yeah, you can't really compare DD/Bullseye to Batman/Joker as while Bullseye has for a long time been one of DD's main rogues he's never been the top of the pile - that spot will always go to Kingpin.

I rank it pretty high. I would say that Bullseye is Daredevil's number 1 foil. He took Elektra from him and Karen. Daredevil took a rock and carved into Bullseye's head a bullseye symbol. He is the one villain that finally pushed Daredevil to broke his code and kill someone. He came pretty close to killing Mia Matt's ex-wife as well. Kingpin has done some really f@#ked up things to Matt, but Matt never lost it and broke is one cardinal rule. The one he prided himself on keeping. Bullseye did that. I don't see Bullseye as one dimensional. The have gone in his past and showed you some of what got him to wear he is and also he is a psychopath. He doesn't try to be honorable. He is what he is.

Rivalry? I wouldn't call it that by any stretch. Bullseye, to me, has always been more of an annoying mosquito DD swats away whereas The Kingpin is DD's natural born enemy.

    Co-signed.
Kingpin is a real fleshed-out character.

Bullseye is a character you love to hate, but beyond being an irredeemable monster, he doesn't really have a character.
I really hope he stays dead.

Well, based on the events of issue 26 -- man, Waid is just killing it on DD -- Bullseye goes up a notch. Does he outrank Kingpin as Matt's top rival/opposite number/nemesis? No, but I've got to put him as at least his biggest nightmare. More fuel for this debate. Good stuff, Mark Waid.

I'd say that Bullseye is indeed Daredevil's archenemy. Not Kingpin.

Can't really see it. Kingpin is more often than not the one pulling Bulleye's strings and bringing them into conflict. Although Bullseye has done a lot of damage to DD on a very personal level, quite a lot of it is to someone else's orders or part of a larger scheme.

The best analogy for the Daredevil/Bullseye rivalry is for me Spider-Man vs Venom (way back when he first appeared anyway.) There's a personal edge and any time they throw down it will be one heck of a fight, but compared to Doc Ock/Green Goblin for Spidey and Kingpin for Daredevil, it's a notch below true arch enmity.

I don't disagree that Bullseye ultimately takes a backseat to Kingpin, but mostly, I think, because Kingpin is more high profile overall whereas Bullseye often gets seen as a 'henchman'. Although I think when you get down to it this is a laypersons opinion of the character. The more you read of Bullseye the more you realize he's complex, maybe even moreso than Kingpin. But typically the moments he's been given to shine often seem overshadowed by the 'Born Again' storylines and the ongoing Kingpin rivalry. In the end though Bullseye has done far more to personally go after DareDevil, much like Joker has with Batman.

Born Again was cool, but ultimately Fisk is a borrowed Spidey villain, and Bullseye is very underrated. Kingpin was a mountain, Bullseye is a cancer.

I often feel the same way. He's still a borrowed villain, whereas Bullseye was created specifically for DD.

Bullseye ranks relatively high because of a lot of the Frank Miller stuff. Particularly him killing Electra.

That's arguably the most memorable significant moment in DD history. I wouldn't say he's the main or top DD villain... but he definately holds a special and unique spot

Bullseye might be Matt's physical equal, but mentally he's just a thug. He's neither smart or ambitious enough to really take their rivalry to the next level.
