Default CBR: HeroesCon: Longbox Digital Comics

Formally unveiled at HeroesCon, Longbox hopes to do for comics what iTunes did for music. We spoke with mastermind Rantz Hoseley, who also edited Image's Tori Amos-inspired "Comic Book Tattoo," about the software.

Sounds very interesting--especially the idea to give vouchers for the print versions with the downloads could bring a lot of people to try this out.

The article says nothing about the most important part of the software, though--the reading interface. The images with the article don't appeal to me much, with the way the screen is half-full of buttons and navigation elements rather than just giving the art as much room as possible. I don't like panels being lifted out of the page--the page is a unit, and usually designed as such.

    One question..
Can you view them in Fullscreen or is it just Inwindow like in the screenshots?

In-Window/In-Browser is whats killing all chances for Digital Comics..
If you can fill the screen with the comics with a solid color border.. then it won't take you out of the story

Full screen might be nice but I do like the look of the zoom-into-panel function.

Yeah, that reading interface is kind of ugly.

It's funny how the article says a wider audience is not going to be reached by Spider-Man or Batman or ‘Irredeemable’ or any other superhero book no matter how well done it is" and right next to that piece of text is an image featuring Invincible.

i should have shelled out the extra cash for one of those tablet/laptop hybrids with the fancy hinges on the monitor that could make it a giant sized full color kimble

How big does the art need to be? You could easily fit a 2-page spread from a comic at actual size on my screen and still have shitloads of room for the interface.

As an FYI, there is a 'minimum UI' mode, and a 'hotkey only' mode for advanced users.

Also, Linux may or may not be supported in the initial launch, depending on user demand during the Beta phase.

ALSO - LongBox, Inc. is the company behind LongBox. Quicksilver is our development partner.
