Default The Gauntlet: Old School Baddies' Revenge

    http://www.newsarama.com/comics/0906...spotlight.html

Readers of Amazing Spider-Man have been waiting for the day that all those villains from Spider-Man's past would start showing up again.

    And in November, it begins.

As announced this weekend, the writers of Amazing Spider-Man will start bringing back Spider-Man's deadliest foes in stand-alone story arcs that tie together under the label, "The Gauntlet."

While some of Spider-Man's well-known villains are already part of the thrice-monthly title -- including his nemesis Norman Osborn, who is front-and-center in current Dark Reign-related issues -- many of the hero's traditional rogues have been absent since Amazing Spider-Man began its new status quo in January 2008. Along with the new supporting cast that came with the "Brand New Day" changes, the group of writers who produce the comic also introduced readers to several new villains while more many more familiar baddies were noticeably absent.

Beginning with Amazing Spider-Man #611 by Mark Waid, which sees the return of Electro, a series of villainous returns will follow, all tying together under the "Gauntlet" banner and taking the title into 2010.

I still a have a spider-sense inkling that this "gauntlet" of oldschool baddies is going to end with Ana bringing Sergei Kravenoff (being the last classic rogue in the bullet chamber) back from the dead to segue into Sinister 666.

The two things we know about 666 so far is that Kraven (ana) is involved and it's not a traditional sinister six story somehow.

I could be way off though..I just get this nasty feeling about it. The Gauntlet cover/promo image further plants the idea in my head, intentional or not.

Loving the sound of this story. Feels so good to be getting all the classic villains back. They've been in hibernation from ASM for too long.

I just hope that Doc Ock is involved in this team.

I don't understand why the webheads think everyone of Spidey's villians needs to be reimagined. The thing with Electro's motivations for retiring and then coming back to villany but whatever they're doing with Rhino makes no sense to me. Rhino doesn't really need to be anything more than the super strong tank that isn't to bright ...... I mean thats his role among Spidey's cast of villans and there isn't anything wrong with that to me.

    Cool.

Having finally Electro back sounds great. And Electro being in what looks like another great event in Amazing Spider-Man is trully interesting.

Isn't this just a version of what was done in ASM Annual #1?

Electro's story sounds hilarious but it doesn't sound like it's really going to help my opinion of him.

It's that he's a complete dork running around in a hideous...hideous outfit not unlike The Rhino. Of course The Rhino is actually suppose to look and sound retarded. Thats what makes him lovable. Electro on the other hand just comes across as a joke even when someone throws him a bone.

I can't think of a mask that has ever elicited more pity laughs from me.

Max Dillon is a complete dumbass so I probably shouldn't be surprised that Waid is writing a criminal scheme for him that fits a lil closer to the character's pathetic nature.

    Nonsense.

Electro is one of the Original Sinister Six and apeared first in the first classic stories of ASM.

And the Electro custume is great IMO.

I think Electro should literally be a being of complete electricity, just like his Ultimate counterpart and the MTV version. And I would totally change his personality to completely psychotic like the Spectacular version, but ways to use his powers in new ways. That's where his knowledge of being an electrician should kick in, such as causing the biggest blackout in New York and hold the city hostage if people want the power back, they have to meet with his demands that seem crueler than usual.

Couldn't he do that without transforming into a lame 90's villain?

    Talking Holy guacmole batman!

with regards to the interview...I couldn't believe Scarlet Spider fans were not all over this one:

Some of the events of “The Gauntlet” are currently being set up in van Lente’s “Dark Reign: Mr. Negative,“ on sale now. Ben Reilly will return at some point as well, but it was unclear whether this would be part of “The Gauntlet” or would occur afterward.
I thinks it's as close to a confirmation as we're getting....Reilly cometh indeed!

link of the entire interview here (for you lazy peeps)

EDIT: I take that one back...I found the appropriate thread for the discussion here
