The Collective...Earth's Mightiest (with the help of Ms. Marvel) taking on a Global threat, as well as the threat of an old enemy (Magneto). Sentry finally being used...
It's a shame that Civil War followed because that arc in my opinion was what cemented them as The Avengers.
Disassembled for the amazing Spider-Woman and Luke Cage issues.
"Newsarama refugee"
New Avengers was going so well up until Civil War. From The Collective and earlier its actually a pretty good run. After that, Civil War and then Secret Invasion, it just kinda put them in this very awkward position. No longer Avengers, now more heroes who just sit around and do nothing. Its kinda sad. The new Sorcerer Supreme arc looks like things are on the up though.
Breakout seemed like an interesting way to assemble the team & looked as though it would give them near limitless stories thereafter.
Sadly subsequent arcs didn't live up to my expectations
Looking forward to the new Kid Loki book & Morbius.
Breakout was great.
After that it was kind of hard to live up to that arc but I still enjoyed most of the arcs to varying degrees.
Breakout, The Sentry,The Collective, Dissassembled, Revolution and The Trust were all really good. Secret Invasion was good in terms of the story background it added to the main SI book, but bad when taken purely as a NA arc.
1. Revolution (loved the "new" team, the Yu art and the big reveal...)
2. Breakout (i hope everyone that liked Breakout read the Spider-man: Breakout mini series that immediately followed it, it was really good stuff)
3. Ronin (love love love that the first issue totally reveals Ronin is deaf, but it's never really explained until you read part 2 and then realize that they show the same scene from the villains perspective with dialog {that was absent in part 1} when i re-read this i was immensely impressed by how that scene was handled. Plus Luke Cage getting knocked off the penthouse *christmas!* and riding the elevator back up complete with elevator music was priceless. not too mention great Finch art. and Ninjas. what can i say, i like ninjas.)
============ Just say "NO!" to $4 books. ============
I pretty much agree with this. They're Avengers because they call themselves that but they're not doing anything to live up to that name in my eyes. Even the current arc is more along with helping a friend find someone and just happening to fight someone along the way. That said though, except for the Secret Invasion issues I've enjoyed the series overall for the most part and enjoy each issue, just not to the same level as I did the earlier issues.
I loved Revolution and the Trust. The Skrulektra reveal is one of my favourite comic moments ever. The art and team members and storylines from this era were what really sold me as a NA fan.
Agreed. Secrets and Lies would've won my vote if it hadn't been for the whole Skrull thing... seriously, Spider-Woman was one of my favorite characters until we found out that she wasn't actually herself.*sigh*
But Disassembled had some really nice stuff. Cage and Drew-Veranke had the best issues, but the other ones were decent too, especially the Stark one. I liked the whole choosing sides that Civil War forced in the team, especially with the two founders becoming the heads of the opposing sides.
Next vote would be Ronin. Echo's a great character, and her reveal was beautifully done. As artiepants says, it was really amusing how they included the deafness all along, but it wasn't immediately recognizeable. Makes it fun to reread.
Looks like the first arc is the most popular, can't say i'm suprised. It was a classic.
The only arc I didn't really care for was Secret Invasion except for the last issue because it actually had the team...of course it wasn't a happy ending at the time (Luke and Jess coming back to find Baby Danielle gone). As for the other issues of that arc, I just looked through the art and got an idea of what was going on.
Breakout just worked really well. A few guys against overwhelming odds. You really felt like there was no way they could win. But they did, and they did it with style.
