Question Sean McKeever's work on Teen Titans / What is Your Verdict ?

I am thinking of getting a Teen Titans TPB at the bookstore. I don't know if I should get a Sean McKeever one or a Geoff Johns one. I am only familiar with the Marv Wolfman Teen Titans. What do you think about McKeever's work on Teen Titans? Do you recommend it? I know he worked on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. And he got good raves on that title.

Unbelievable garbage, sadly. All angsty and depressing.

...I had to pick the last choice, but there needs to be an additional one added that would cover the fact that the book has also been clusterfracked by a lot of editorial sabotage. Three of the four central characters have been stripped from the book by deaths and/or events in their main books, while the fourth has been bimbo-ized by their losses. Same thing happened to Dwayne McDuffie over on JLA, but at least Dwayne's put forth some semblance of at least trying to make his book work with the B-list characters he's been left with.

Bottom Line: Didio needs to put Teen Titans back on track, with the primary four members back in place, and a "hands off" edict issues that would prevent their primary books from interfering with their participation on the team.

Definitely a depressing angst-filled read where the team spent most of the time totally miserable and you wondered why they were even together.

I agree 100% about the editorial sabotage though, it seems pretty clear in this book, even moreso than JLA. I enjoyed McKeever's work on Terror Titans actually and this run on Titans probably won't affect whether I buy his stuff in the future.

I dropped it after he killed Marvin and maimed Wendy, and from what I've heard, the quality hasn't increased since I left. He also almost forced me to drop Birds of Prey before its cancellation, until Tony Bedard mercifully stepped in and allowed me to end the run without any breaks. After those two outings, I'm admittedly apprehensive picking up anything DC with his name on it now, although I did check out his recent fill-in issue of Titans and thought it was decent.

Anyway, I'll be glad when his runs finally over, and thus vote "1 Star."

I came back to the book as a McKeever fan and left doubting I'll read much of his stuff in the future.

I just read the TT TPB of McKeever's where Robin and Superboy become Batman and Superman in the future, and their advisor is Lex Luthor. Yes the book is full of angst. I was surprised since McKeever's Mary Jane Loves Spider-Man had the opposite mood of the Teen Titans book. Personally, I liked it. It wasn't the best, but it was readable.

However, I don't think you can keep the Teen Titans book at that level of angst for an extended period of time though. The mood has to lighten up a little and be more adventurous. Too much angst in a series for an extended period of time, can "kill-off" younger readers from the book.

Not reading even half of what DC has on the shelves, I find this kind of polls hard to vote for. I'll just say his was one of my least favorite Titan runs ever.

The one good thing McKeever's run accomplished was bringing Static into the DCU, but's that's it. The rest is just a clusterfuck of gore and poorly written youth speak. It's even worse than that god awful 90's Teen Titans reboot.

It was much fresher than his predessessors take on the teen titans.

    which is always a blessing.
