    Default Sins Past Megathread

First of all, let me say that i like retcons (you may shoot me now!), but only if they're well done, of course!

I was browsing the net and came aupon this arc called "Sins Past" and was blown away by the plot, but not in a good way! What the hell is going on?!? Gwen pregnant of Norman?! Adult 9 years old twins?!? And a lot of other facts don't play right with the original story, so, this seems like a retcon i'm not gonna like! What about you guys? Did you like this arc? Did it made sense in the end? Is it worth it?

    Thanks!

The retcon- Like smearing feces on a painting of a goddess.

The story- Not bad. I liked it. It had the "Let's kill Peter's spirit even more" and "show how much he misses Gwen" parts and stuff. I dunno. I liked the story. I'd like it more if it weren't Norman, but I suppose it makes more sense to be him.

It didn't make sense and the storyline was horrible. Avoid it. Avoid it like you owe it money.

How is it a retcon? It's a good story. Pick it up man. I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the entire arc.... JMS is pretty solid in his research and his execution..... The story simply worked...

Don't buy it. The timeline alone doesn't make sense (when could Gwen bang Norman??), among other things.

Personally I don't mind the revelation that Gwen slept with Norman because I find it interesting to see some flaws in her post-mortem reverance.

But the whole pregnant with twins, who look 20, but are 9 and were secretly trained by the Green Goblin, has too many illogical holes in it.

There are some really good moments where Parker copes with the idea that his old college sweetheart wasn't so perfect, and Norman Osborn, got to him in a way that he never anticipated. I was so content with the human drama (and soap opera) of that storyline, but the moment they introduce all the hidden technology that Green Goblin was giving the twins and training them, it just makes it kind of silly and I rolled my eyes at it.

Personally, I wouldn't have minded a story where Spidey uncovers Norman and Gwen slept together, and he's so mad that he just tries to get into the prison to beat up Norman. Not very exciting, but a nice bit of melodrama with Parker acting maybe rash, but at the very least human.

I disliked this story so much that I actually dropped Amazing afterwards. I found it to be poorly crafted, with a retcon that doesn't match the original comics in any way.

However, my tastes may not be anything like yours, so you might like it.

Its not as bad as some would have you believe.its just the whole execution of the twins storyline thats bad.

The whole Gwen sleeping with Norman thing well people who complain it was out of character well i like to pretend that Peter messed with time when he wnet back through time in the Happy Birthday storyline.

I say it's one of J. Michael Straczynski's's best Spider-Man stories. Pick up a TPB copy of it today mate.

Thank you all for all the replies... i think i'm gonna browse the tpb before i try to buy it. But to be honest i'm more on the "not buying it" side. I don't remember in the original stories Gwen being pregnant or even hinting it. How the hell did she disapear from action several months if the most time she was out was only few weeks? Something souds fishy...:(

    Thanks ppl.

I personally hate this storyline. Why the hell did the writer had to do this to poor gwen? I don't see when back in the 70's did she have time with norman to get pregnant? I don't consider this story part of continuity. Originally the writer wanted that it was peter who was the father, and osborn kidnapped them and made them think everything's pete's fault. But oh no the damn editor decided "nah peter with kids does'nt make sense" and decided to use osborn instead. I liked the original plan better but this story is utter crap.

    This is just my opinion.

It's ok I guess. Deodato's artwork is really good... but the story did NOT sell me on the general main conceit: That Gwen Stacy slept with Norman Osborn, ran off to Europe where she secretly delivered 2 twins.

I just burst out laughing when I read it.

It felt like a Chuck Austen X-Men story!
