Of all the interviews he's had about Cap #600 NOT ONE person has asked about the elepant in the room: Will Cap be $4 after 601? Why the hell hasn't anyone - Newsarama, CBR, IGN - asked this question. Am the only one curious? Tell me, am I THE ONLY ONE CURIOUS? WTF?
I like the idea of past writers coming to update us on their supporting characters. They should do that more. Stern already revisited Fred Sloane a couple of years ago. They didn't get JM DeMatteis for this anniversary issue and that's a pity since he had a long run (can't remember if he created supporting characters who are still alive, he used Dave Cox which Brubaker used in #49).
Thats nearly 200 pages of Cap in three months! Awesome!
I'm a Cap fan and I don't feel nearly as enthused. The fact the're hinting so strongly at Steves return and these upcoming issues will be either flashback of single issue stories has me feeling careless towards this title. The Sharon Carter issue really killed whatever momentum and appeal the series had for me.
I just got to reading #49 and it wasn't all that bad. Simple story telling and the ending was excellent. I hope the rumors about a female Cap are proven false though. Brubaker's original story is the only thing keeping coming back to Marvel these days.
I would pay $5 a book for this writer and art team.
