Cassandra "Batgirl" Cain Appreciation Thread

Ugh, look at all that damage Beechen caused.

So does anyone think we'll see Cass again before Batgirl #1? Will anything be explained, or is it gonna be a case of quietly stripping her of her title either during a brief mention or maybe not even at all? I'd like to see her have some level of involvment in the Batgirl series, particularly #1.

Honestly if we see anything of Cass it might be in Streets of Gotham or Red Robin. That's my bet at least. Maybe Tim and Cass drop the identities of Robin and Batgirl at the same time? Perhaps we'll get her motives then. But I think thus far we haven't and like always we'll have to wait till Aug and Batgirl #1 before we get an actual answer.

Which sucks because yet again DC treats Batgirl fans horribly. But yeah Beechen did so much damage to the character it isn't funny. First he make's her evil. Then he continues to make her evil even after she was off the drug and acted like nothing happened. Then instead of a seperate story we get six issues of Beechen cleaning up the plot holes of his Robin arc.

Why couldn't DC just give the story of Cass's redemption to Chuck Dixon as it originally was to be. You didn't know that right? That Dixon was to write a fill-in issue of Tec involving Cass? It was on Newsarama in a podcast interview involving him before the big fight he had with DC and left.

They kicked out Dixon because Dixon actually knew what he was doing when he wrote a story and where he was going.

Dan D is just all over the place, especially with Batgirl. I mean, after her series ended on an almost perfect note, he goes and hands her to Beechen without any thought. Was the backlash that hard to see?

I think the problem for editors would have been that if Dixon wrote that story, Cass would have been acknowledged in the main books. And God knows we can't have that :rolleyes:

Yeah it's wierd that just right after War Games the whole shoving Cassandra into corner and not allowing her to appear in the main books happened. I mean what's up with that? I mean hating a character and being forced to write them is one thing. But to completely ignore the character as if she never existed is just even worse. You think someone would have a nice fill in story to have her contribute to the story but nope just straight up Tim, Dick, and Bruce only no time for Cassandra.

Heck do you bet no writer will EVER bring up the fact that she's now supposed to be Cassandra Wayne? That's the one thing I will give credit to Beechen in that mini that scene with Alfred talking about how much Bruce hasn't considered her a part of his life pretty much speaks to all the writers and edtiors who just refuse to believe she's a part of that universe.

Outsiders is a third string title though. For my money, until they acknowledge the adoption in the main Detective/Batman books, it don't mean much.

I guess I see your point, I don't think they've acknowledged it as much as they should either, but they have mentioned it outside of the Batgirl mini, and referred to it in the past tense, where as it was a "I plan to" thing, tentative and upcoming in the mini.

Your points about Cassandra being ignored more often than not are totally valid, I certainly don't dispute that. I would like to see her interacting with her siblings much more often.

Same here. I mean yes it was nice to see the Network thing mentioned. But really, again when they had Batgirl recruited Spoiler in B&O Cass was acting like she never knew Steph. The girl was freaking her best friend. And we still never saw her reaction to Steph being alive only Tim ever. :(

This is what I regret most in all this.

Even though there have a couple of issues post-Beechen that showed her in-character, none of them developed her character.
The shame is that it would be so very easy.
Her unfinished business with both Oracle and Spoiler could have been written into very emotional, touching and memorable scenes. It would have been very easy. The writers of her own series laid so much ground for this that any moderately decent writer could do that.

Instead, her character keeps on stalling. Because all her recent appearances were in action scenes.
It almost seems like the current writers dare to use her for action, but scare away from using her for stories.
And now it is too late. Cassandra has worked with both Barbara and Steph so there is no credible way to bring those stories now.
