I mean I liked Face-Off, but I didn't go to college either.
i like it, but i prefere Battles B.C.
Okay, before this thread this is what I knew about Tish, zip, zero, nada.
I now know that Tish is a heavily armed, black, bi-sexual, truck driving woman who likes going to the clubs.
I don't think I learned this much about Tom in six months let alone one post. - Boldido
I'm begining to like Tish more and more, that's what I know. - cable guy

I totally love this show. This episode, Mafia vs Yakuza was a good one but there have been much better episodes.
Apache vs Gladiator
Samurai vs Viking
Spartan vs Ninja
Pirate vs Knight
and now the Mafia vs Yakuza. This show is like what if Mythbusters meets Fight science

This show and Battles B.C. are becoming some of my favorite shows. I disagreed with them on the Viking vs. Samurai fight, but still a great show. One of the things that get me though is that in the trash talk between the two sides, there's always one who takes it entirely too personally. I wonder if towards the end of the season they'll have the winners fight each other in some kind of championship.
Big fan of the show as well. Posted a thread about it over at YABS when it first premired:

My favorite episode so far has been the first one, Apache vs. Gladiator, but all of them have had revealed aspects of the "warrior" that I find interesting. While the show isn't comprehensive (nor should it be preceived as such), it's a nice introduction to cultures which others may know little about. Also, it's always exhilirating seeing swords, guns, and baseball bats tear into ballistic gel dummies and pig carcasses. Furthermore, there's always a little bit of trash talk going on b/w the two groups, which adds to the attraction of the show, though I think some of it is scripted. Anyway, some of my personal comments and thoughts about the show so far:
- Seeing the Apache wield those knives in the first episode was AWESOME. Never, EVER thought you could have THAT many knives on your body or throw them in such a way.
- Watching the katana blade halted by VIking chain mail was a very concrete showing of the limitations of the katana blade and demystified it a bit.
- Seriously, when the Ninja expert was trying to salvage the fact that his kurisagama's blade couldn't penetrate the armor of the Spartan, that was a little pathetic.
- Never knew that a Knight's plate armor could at least withstand a musket ball shot.
Can't wait for next week's episode!

The Pirate/Knight match was very obvious to me.
Thank you for the Spartans winning. That was another easy one.
I nearly thought the Vikings were better, but hey, I like Samurai's more anyways.
And the first episode result was a damn swerve for me. Shoot, the Apache Indians are better than Gladiators? Wow.
All in all, now I'm interested.
You just have to be cool about it...
I like this show too.

My only complaint was that the Ninja should have beat the Spartan (it seems I'm the only one who believes this though). That entire fight was filled with stupid moments on the ninjas part.
Anyway, I also like how they build up to the fight by getting you completely familiar with the fighters techniques and weapons and such. I love the little demonstration parts too. This show is pretty fun.

I'm just a little annoyed that the knights got screwed. They would have wrecked any medieval oppenant they went up against, so they have to put them up against the next generation of technology?
Stupid Blunderbuss.
Okay...
I saw the Mafia/Yakuza episode again.
Due to some DUMB weapon choices on the 'Kuza's part, the Mafia won.
Blame it on the Tommy Gun over the British Sten (that was going to happen) and the Baseball Bat over the... and this, plus the next one ticked me off... nunchakus. Idiots. The Yakuza always has a wide variety of close range weapons... and they picked the least deadly blunt object... dammit, look at your swords...
Also, a sawed off shotgun will always beat a pistol, unless the range is too high. Any pistol. But... I though the 'Kuza had something to counteract with a shotgun?
Mainly, the Mafia won with range.
You just have to be cool about it...
I agree. I mean, since the Knight armor was shown to be resistant to the flintlock pistol, that means that Knight could have taken the majority via the crossbow, since the Pirate isn't armored at all. But no, he lost soley because of the Blunderbuss, which I guess supposes the pirate could get close enough to use it while crossbow bolts are flying at him.
But in any case, I think a far more interesting scenario would have been the Knight vs. Viking, and a Pirate vs. Samurai from the harquebus age. That way it would have been Harquebus vs. Blunderbus and Katana vs. Cutlass.

I know, the Apache winning over the Gladiator was a huge swerve for me as well. I think the deciding factor (as it seems to have been through some of the other battle scenarios) was the Apache's usage of the long-range distance weapon, the bow and arrow. Still, (and what's really interesting about the show) is that it's not a clean sweep overall in these fights. Rather the Gladiator was able to win some of the time as well
As the show progressed, I had a feeling that the Yakuza were boxing themselves in with the weapons they had. I believe that one of the experts, Zero Kazama (seriously, that sounds like a secret character from Tekken), admitted that the nunchucks weren't met for heavy damage but as a distraction.Blame it on the Tommy Gun over the British Sten (that was going to happen) and the Baseball Bat over the... and this, plus the next one ticked me off... nunchakus. Furthermore, i think that the Yakuza experts were trying to emphasize that the Yakuza were better skilled than the Mafia, hand to hand wise. Thus, they could be more versatile w/ the nunchuks, using them to strike as well as lock up opponents. However, skills are aspects which the computers can't analyze. Indeed, on the online "Deadliest Warrior: Aftermath" show, which answers viewer questions, comments, and complaints, one of the show's fight choreographers stated that it's basically assumed that the warriors' skill levels are considered even. It does come down to the weapons, which can be measured.
Cool. Never knew that beforeThe modern katana's are not made as good as the older versions, the older katanas would have had a better time getting through that chain mail.
The Dotanuki ( Torso Cutter ) would have cut through that chail mail like butter..
