Default What is the most obscure marvel comic issue/run in your collection?

I have the six issue run of Police Academy, (1989) which sticks out in my mind for its irrelevance to anything else I was collecting at the time but I went and saw most of them at the cinema as a young whipper-snapper!

I wouldn't regard titles/LS's/One-Shots such as Fallen Angels, (1987) X-Terminators, (1988) Heroes For Hope: Starring the X-Men, (1985) as being that obscure as they are linked to popular storylines/titles/ popular creators attached, at the time. Brute Force, Airwalkers etc, definitely.

I really want to locate the Marvel Fumetti Book, (1984) and The A-Team, (1984) to see what they are like.

Does Ghost Rider 2099 count? That was a brilliant cyberpunk story thet required no previous knowledge of GR as the only connection was that he looked a bit like the original (i.e. flaming skull).

Also the Marvel Tech Deathlok series from the mid 1990s, which had no connection to any versions of the character before or since & featured some beautiful Leonardo Manco art & a hilarious subplot featuring the Clown from the Circus of Crime trying to make it as a hitman.

Speaking of The A-Team...yeah, I own that mini-series and was the one that popped into me head before seeing you mention it!

I also own such Marvel comics classics as Team America #1-12 and Alf #1.

I have the first issue Legend of Zelda comic.
Recently i found a few issues of the Heathcliff Star comic tucked away among my collection...I've never even liked Heathcliff so i have no idea where they came from. I also bought the complete mini of Last Starfighter, Labyrinth, Howard the Duck at a flea market last year.

I know it doesn't qualify, since it's linked to a "popular title," but my one-shot "Obnoxio the Clown versus the X-Men" is the best one I can think of.

I used to have a few issues of the "Shogun Warriors" series back in the day.

    haha...great thread idea...

As far irrelevance to what I was collecting at the time, I'm not sure, I think a WCW comic made it's way in there somehow, or something like that. I'm not a bif movie adaption guy or things that aren't really comic book stuff guy but it is amusing to reflect on stuff like NFL Superpro, and go like "Why?" Then again, the sheer absurdity of it, after time elapses makes it fun.

I think it's more interesting, to me anyway, to appreciate these ideas and books that kind of get lost in the sauce, so to speak, between, different editorial changes.

I'd have to really go over all of them to say for sure, but as far as cool stuff that I think may sound odd, I'd really like to get an entire run of The Shogun Warriors, and the Marvel record-comic sets of Dracula and Frankenstein.

That's why I often think the whole Shooter run excluding his acknowledgement and push the X-Men (especially Claremont's work, mutants in general, wqas somewhat overrated. I mean really, how much intelligence does it really take to see the X-Men was a great concept and easily relatable to anyone, it was just a little before it's time, but on the other hand some of those cool Marvel obscurities like Dracula, and Godzilla and Rom, Shanna,. Brother Voodoo, and so forth that the Roy Thomas era brang were somewhat lost, like Mar-Vell because in order to introduce the severity of death and the prestige format, why not kill off a primary hero. Basically doing the same thing to Captain Marvel that happened to the X-Men pre-Claremont era, as if it was a fictional character's fault. I like 'em both, anyways...Obscurities....hmmm...

However, I guess different times call for different approach.

This are some very cool pulp like magazine covers a friend (credit to Blair) sent that look really cool, they are French I believe and may have been distributed throughout Europe in the mid to late 1970's.

It makes me wonder were there different stories in other countries? Is the entire MU all cohesive? I'll post all of them on a different thread later, but notice the pilpy kind of weird effect that is cool. Apparently, they had a few different stories, like 100 or so pages worth, similiar to when they put out respectable "Marvel Superheros" comics, that ran the gamit of different stuff, like Marvel Shadows and Light, a pretty cool and weird one from the 90's, it's black and white, I guess that may be why the concept was overlooked but the character pairing and different stories/creative teams was excellent in concept. They're relatively cheap and a good pick up.

The one I have has Wolverine, Captain Mar-Vell, Dr. Strange and Dracula for starters. Good shit.

How about the B-Siders. Not ancient, but pretty obscure. And pretty horrible. I've got it somewhere. (I'm sure someone is going to say it's there favorite book. They always do.)
