Default CBR: X-Men Origins: Wolverine - The CBR Review

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" combines a great character with a fun movie not without its problems, but ultimately succeeds as reviewer Erik Amaya notes film goers will come away with "a desire...to see another X-Men picture."

I just read the reviews from Variety and THR, which weren't nearly as positive, but I don't care -- I'm seeing this movie no matter what. Sounds like it's just a good time, something I need these days.

"The number of characters necessitates the film have a road-movie format. Logan goes from location to location, meeting odd and interesting characters, including Ma and Pa Kent."

    Wait...what?! Really?

"The film begins in the late 1800s, revealing Logan’s first claw attack. We also see that he and his brother Victor decide to run from that incident into a title sequence showing the two engaged in every major American conflict from that point until Vietnam."

...don't they fight in the Civil War?
I'd say it starts in the mid-1800s.

Default I saw it last night! (Mild Spoilers)

I saw the film at an advanced screening in the UK last night.

While it does have its faults, I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would.

It has silly moments (Weapon XI's blades - how does he bend his elbows?), and it has plenty of moments to irritate continuity freaks like myself (Silver Fox and Emma Frost related? Scott Summers eye beams shouldn't emit heat!!!!).

Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth was inspired casting but he wasn't the pure evil Sabertooth that I am used to. Hugh Jackman was great as Wolverine but I wish he was a foot shorter and uglier as Wolverine is meant be be a short hairy runt to look at.

This movie is not quite as good as X-Men 1 and 2 but is definitely an improvement on The Last Stand"! Go and see it!!!

"The film does have a number of problems."

O RLY!?!? You dont need an elaborate review for this movie. It sucks plain and simple.

"Despite these problems, the film does have a sense of fun and humor. Both Logan and Wade are characters quick with a wisecrack."

O yeah the few lines Reynolds had were real kneeslappers. OOOO And Logan calling Blob "Bub" was just HILARIOUS!!.

The movie should be stricken from everyones memory. This is a huge piece of shit. I really thought Hugh Jackman WANTED to be Wolverine, but it looks like to me he is just cashing in on everyone. Everyone where you see Wolverine vs Sabretooth and they dont even fight!! Just like in Superman Returns, theres no fight between Luthor/Superman. Seriously, I could make a better movie than that.

    I hated it.

    it was a disapointment.

Just a road trip with various cameos on the way.

Now I understand how people felt about the Batman Tv series in the 60's.

I just really want to know how Sabretooth becomes a foot and a half taller (plus grows long, blonde hair) between this film and X-Men 1. I'm not incredibly pleased about what will happen with Wade but I do know that this movie will overall be great.

The Sabretooth in X-Men 1 was an embarrassment. Liev's version is a much needed, welcomed improvement.

I liked his overall look. A few tweaks would have made it better. The new Sabretooths personality was better though.

On the Ma and Pa Kent moment:

There's a sequence in the film, after Weapon X, where Logan is aided by two kindly old folks who live on a farm. Their entire manner is very much the Kents.

    On when the film starts:

It may begin in the mid-1800s, but I can't recall if the first war in the credit sequence is the Civil War or WWI. If it is Civil War, I'm gutted we don't see Logan and Victor fighting in the Spanish-American War.

I'm bummed there was no Captain America, or at least a hint at him. Not that I expected it, but still. A marvel movie with a WW scene and no Captain America? For shame.

They can't use him. They can't even say his name in the movie with out being sued. Its the same reason why they couldnt use The Daily Bugle in Daredevil another studio has the rights.
McKenstry those with the most opinions often have the fewest facts.

Barack Obama There's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America.

Christopher Yost Cyclops = Awesome and Right, while Xavier = USELESS JERK-O! Viva la Cyclops!
