What the hell are "various reasons" not to run a dude's dedication to his dad on his last issue of a well-received run? Other than him going to Marvel?

There's only two modern artists who I feel capture a better Hawkman than Dale: Rags Morales and Joe Bennett. I'm really going to miss him at DC, and were he going to any title other than Fantastic Four, a book for the life of me I can't manage to get in to, I would definitely be following him. Regardless of my own interest, though, I wish him much success on the title.

I've also been a bit miffed that DC's solicitation for this issue made a big deal about it being "Geoff John's final" issue without even mentioning Dale.

Anybody remember how much worse Geoff's JSA was selling when he was working without Dale? And then not even a mention? Seems like sour grapes for sure.

Man, I love that JSA image with them sitting for the painter so much. Those little things that almost each and every character is doing is tied to something from the series or their individuality as characters. Few artists capture things like that as well as Dale Eaglesham.

    Default Wow

So, I haven't picked up an issue for awhile, but there were no less than 5 people in that group shot I didn't recognize at all.

Let's see...guy in the dashiki between Atom and Power Girl.
Three people in the front row to the left of Wildcat 3
Guy hiding between Dr. Midnight and Sandman
Oh, and is that Ice standing way in the back and to the left?

And I thought Earth 2 Superman was dead. What's up with that?

    Amazing-Man.

    Magog, Judomaster, and Cyclone.

    Mister America.

That's a portrait of Black Canary.

It's actually Kingdom Come Superman pictured there. The figures in the very last row are supposed to be portraits, representing past or deceased members. Note the frames.

Yeah, there was something up with Dale's departure from DC.

Newsarama asked Didio if they had plans for Dole post-JSA, and Didio almost shrugged it off and gave a fairly mean and unenthusiastic answer (almost along the lines of "he's someone else's problem now"). I posted a thread about it here (which I cannot find in CBR search ), and sure enough a week or so later it was revealed at a con that he was now exclusive to Marvel and that he and Jon Hickman were taking over FF when Millar and Hitch left.

Though, to be fair, there was no mention of it in the comic that this was Johns' last issue, just a nameless (yet sweet) farewell to the readers on the last page.

I'm gonna miss his art very much, I'm very dissapointed he's moving to Marvel. But if he's happy with his descion it's fine. Eaglesham is one of the best artists I've taken notice of ever. His work on JSA really brought the team to life.

Dale's artwork has improved so much since the first time I saw him on Excalber.

His artwork is one of the reasons I started reading a few comic books again after a five year absence.

Thanks for all the info! Some more questions (because no good deed ever went unpunished).

Mister America? Is that for real?

So, does that mean that that's Black Canary I? And why is there no Kingdom Come Batman portrait?

They are probably still upset that him leaving precipitated Geoff Johns departure.

Lol, that was 'Mazing Man, a comedy character. This one is Amazing Man, the other (there was a Amazing Man II) grandson of the original Amazing Man that was created for All-Star Squadron.

For the same reason that there is no Brainiac 5 portrait.
