Sounds like a great idea, Jaye. Especially the immersion part.

I'm a product/packaging designer for a toy company. I guess that makes me a full time artist, but for some reason it doesn't feel the same as working in comics or animation.

I'm doing a webcomic on the side ( http://optichouse.com ), but that's not what's putting food on the table.

Product placement is one thing, but this Subway ad was just damn shameful.

They did the same thing on Psych... which sucked as well.
Seasons 1-2 of Frisky Dingo on Adult Swim both featured heavy product placement from Scion & Hagger pants, but the way they worked it into the plot was hilarious!

That sounds really exciting. I'd love to be in a program like that… What sort of things are you nervous about?

Btw, I just recently started posting on CBR… Is there an "Introduce yourself" thread on the forum, or what's the proper netiquette in these parts?

Personally I work in a costume shop which is kinda cool
all sorts of interesting stuff providing all kinds of inspiration for characters, plots, new costume designs (I'm also an amateur costumer)... lots of superhero stuff

the neat thing is that I have an understanding with my boss. She can get a tad demanding on some things, but I can make a little extra making bodices and doublets. hopefully with this first bunch for this year will be enough to pick up some more Prismacolors.

Thre is one over on the Community forum. As for the Showcase, this thread can serve as the defacto "introduce yourself" thread.

Hmmmm. I'm not even sure if I would call myself an artist at all, more likely a student/dabbler of the arts. I work in IT, learning about and doing art and other creative skills is the fun stuff.

It sounds terrific. I've done a couple of the week long art studio/class/vacation , but this sounds far more intensive.

Advice? Remember everyone else will be just as nervous as you and it's the scariest before you start. Oh, and showing up with enough homemade cookies for everyone for the first break never hurts.

This is a very good point. When I started college, there was a guy sitting in the row ahead of me whose work was so good it just depressed me. I'd see the stuff on his desk when he wasn't around, and I'd think about quitting the course.

Then I found out he felt the same way about my work.

19 years later, we're still good friends. In fact, he was in town recently and we got drunk together.

You and me both. Enough to push me back into social wellfare if I don't get any jobs soon. I have to pay back all the money I earned in 2007 and I already spend it on paying other bills. Thanks a fucking bunch, government.

Well, now I feel worse for you. Mine's all due to an inheritance payment. Thankfully I knew ahead of time I'd be taxed pretty heavily so I didn't touch any of it. And even then it's no so bad, because my charitable donations/deductions for 2008 were pretty extreme.

I don't have a job yet, still a student. Though after I finish my degree and can't rely on the student loans/grants, then I'll be needing to find a job doing something for someone.

Oh man, this is really depressing if you are having financial difficulties. I wish things were better for artists living in the US. Not that any other place is that much better, but I've heard Ireland is a nice cushy artistic tax haven. Anybody here from Ireland?
