    Default Mèdici’s Garden

    Welcome to Mèdici’s Garden!

The Mèdici family was a powerful and influential Florentine family from the 14th to 18th century that served as patron to many famous Renaiisance artists, scholars and poets.

Here in Mèdici’s Garden the artists and writers of the Showcase can share their thoughts, ideas, stories, and insights. You can hold open, ongoing discussions with each other without the need for or the confinement of a specific thread topic.

So pull up a chair, enjoy a warm cappuccino or a cool fresca, and get creative!

Nice idea, Matt. I'll pass on the Fresca, though.

    Default Favorite?

Here's a question for my fellow artists: Who's your favorite artist working in comics right now?

If I had to pick one...hmmmm...I'll get back to you on that...

    here's another topic for debate...

How many of you are reading European comics, or would consider reading them?
I went and made a webcomic...

I'm not currently reading any...but some of my favorite artists are foreigners.
Good examples: I love Moebius and Herge (Tintin guy) and Simone Bianchi is pretty good, Frank Quitely is amazing, as is Steve McNiven (he's Canadian) and Leinil Yu. Gary Frank is from England. So I guess while I don't follow any foreign comics, almost all my favorite comic artists hale from somewhere other than the States...r

But I understand Fresca goes well with rum.

I really loved Aja's work on Immortal Iron Fist. And I'm enjoying Skottie Young's take on the Wizard of Oz.

I'm not. Due more to lack of awareness and interest than anything else.

I'd certainly consider it, although I'm not exactly the biggest comic buyer around to begin with. Something really unique though? Sure.

Probably a toss-up between Frank Quitely and J.H. Williams.

    Simone Bianchi comes close, though.

Oh, and I forgot Olivier Coipel, who's French. He's just been nominated for an Eisner for Thor, too, so congrats to him. Well deserved.

I don't generally buy European Comics, but I Pick up an Issue of Heavy Metal from time to time. Lot's of good European artists and storytellers. Some I considered picking up the collected stories, or sketchbooks.

And not just because of the nudity.

Print comics or do webcomics count as well?

End of Time, I read Asterix and that is about it on a regular basis, but those are gorgeous pages there.

Right now I've been finding myself hankering for simpler cartooning.

Jaime Hernandez rocks my world. And I've been looking at some old school Archie comics and enjoying the linework.
Check out 2009's drawings at my new thread on the Artist & Writer Showcase.

"I prefer working out of strict continuity, because no normal human being can have a firm grip on the constantly shifting bardo-like territory of a comics universe, where entire histories can be erased by a strong enough super-sneeze."- Grant Morrison

I went and saw Adventureland Sunday night. Not as stupid-funny as I thought it would be, but I really liked it anyway. Anyone else check it out?
