Default CBR: Grant Morrison Talks Batman & Robin

Grant just gave it away (like anyone was shocked who it was gonna be) a more adventurous batman (Dick Grayson) and a really violent robin (Damian, he did cut off a villains head). But hasn't taht been obivous for a few months now. I just wish Grant would put his support behind Cassie Cain Batgirl.

If the "new" Batman is more light-hearted, what's his motivation supposed to be for keeping a "violent" Robin around? That's what I don't get yet. Is it simply a sense of obligation to Bruce to try and reform his Demon Spawn?

    YAY!

    a new watchmen?

Check back with CBR News on Friday for a new interview with Grant Morrison, where he discusses “Seaguy: The Slaves of Mickey Eye,” and some other projects he’s currently writing for DC Comics including one book about the Multiverse and a second in the vein of “Watchmen” featuring the heroes of Earth-Four, who are all former Charlton Comics characters.
"You can't trust them as poets either. The true poet is anonymous, as to his habits, but these boys have to look, act, and apparently smell like poets"
    Flannery O'Connor on the beats.

Morrison pretty much contradicted his last interview (no surprises) by saying that he'll be bringing back Black Glove characters. Of course he will be, and of course his contradictory statements shouldn't surprise anybody.

But his last interview saying it wouldn't really be a "continuation" of the "fall of Bruce Wayne" events last year isn't necessarily a lie or contradiction, so much as it's just vague. I imagine the themes explored here couldn't be further from the ones we've gotten up to R.I.P. ... considering we're getting a buddy cop relationship, "nobody can live up to Bruce", electric death version of the TV show with the wigged-out made-up rogues from 666 ...

And of course, Joker will return at some point ...

I'm pretty excited to get into this ... but June is quite a long time from now.

Depending on how much of Batman # 666 comes to pass, it is entirely possible that Dick gets killed at the end of this run. There is a part in there that is said by Commissioner (Barbara) Gordon saying that Damien (then Batman) was responsible for the death of a "good friend". I have a feeling this line will be important one way or another and it should be interesting in how Morrison has set it up.

    ^Welcome to the boards!

Anyway, I think Bruce might be coming back sooner than we think. Grant said "hopefully there's a fifth volume. Bruce has to come back somehow", and then mentioned he's gonna be on the books til the end of 2010.

If Batman 666 has anything to say about the future, it's Dick and Damian.

I don't care for that future, but if we accept Morrison's "everything's in continuity" it has to be the direction BfC is going in.

It is interesting that he says he has plans for Jason, and also talks about the events of #666 containing hints.

We know from BFTC #3 solits that the Lane/Batman #3 (that, IIRC, is who Damien was fighting in 666) costume is likely Jason, because he is running around Gotham with guns.

Me point being... was that Jason in #666?

Doubtful. Aside from the gun toting aspect and the face mask, Jason Todd's Batman and Lane's Batman are completely different.
The one in 666 was Lane, since Damian even says this Batman was the third Batman.

I feel divided about the rotating Frank in and out as artist. On one hand, I want to see some great art, and he can provide it. On the other hand, I want consistency, and rotating artists, generally speaking, cannot provide that.

It makes little sense to me to have an artist give a book his feel, to work on developing characters and backgrounds visually, only to have him there only half of the time. But on the other hand, it doesn't make sense also to have the book come out five or six times a year.

Consider the franchise screwed. Light hearted Batman?! Batman is supposed to be the pissed off crazy dude with a bad attitude.

Basicly this new duo is ****ified batman (from now on, I will write the new batman with a lower case b) and a new version of Jason Todd.

Rather have a brand spanking new protector of Gotham, than some new guy (Dick or not) stealing Bruce's cowl.

If this is true, then I'm calling it now... by Issue 12, Damien causes the death of Dick.

I'm on board with Mr. Morrison, but this is going to be one crazy ride.

Which interview? Everything I've read from him regarding this series has had him pinning it as the next volume in his Batman "novel" which began with Batman 655.

When I read that Winick was taking over Batman, the deal was sealed for me.

I dropped both Batman and Detective. It was mostly fun while it lasted.

"Batman and Robin" will likely be worse than the film of the same name. At least that was not an in continuity story.

I've dropped both the Superman and Batman titles, except for World of Krypton. It's a shame, but DC just can't keep good talent/stories on these core books for very long.
