Default Is any one else tired of crossovers?

That's why I'm not buying Civil War or any of the crossovers, even from the titles on my pull list. I must be getting old and cranky, but enough's enough already.

I guess I'm older, and crankier: I got tired of cross-over/epics about the time of the first (ahem) "secret /crisis/ wars"; haven't really bought into a cross over epic since. ...Haven't felt I've missed anything, either...!

To each his own...I'm loving 'Annihilation' and am willing to give 'Civil War' a try.

I like crossovers that are balanced and that give every character the chance to be showcased...not ones that lean heavily in favour of one character or team.

I can tolerate a crossover if it's self-contained and non-intrusive, like ANNIHILATION. Otherwise, the stupid things are enough to drive me away from comics I enjoy.

My issue with them at this point is that they seemingly attempt to destroy a status quo that a) doesn't exist within the context of the story because everything is destroyed over and over, and b) doesn't destroy the status quo the icon has because it potentially removes his recognition and loss of sales.

I don't mind crossovers from time to time, but these epics make it really hard for someone like me to get into, 'cause I have to buy all of these comics in order to make full sense of the story. =/

Which is why it sucks for me to be interested in Marvel *just* as 'Civil War' is about to start.

I completely ignored House of M, I'm going to completely ignore Civil War, and any comic that I read that crosses over with it, I'm not going to buy. After the whole OYL debacle on the DC side, I dropped all DCU comics that I was reading entirely. Someday, Marvel and DC are going to realize that these stupid epics are costing them readers in the long run and their jumps in sales are only temporary.

I like the format for current crossovers better than those of the past.

With House of M and Civil War buying the one title kept you up with the story and it remains self contained.

What i hate about abotu old crossovers is like reading a story in Uncanny and then saying for Part 2 read Adjectivless X-Men. Say you dont dollect Adjectivless when u get Uncanny next month theyve moved on with a new arc and ignored the story of the previous month...so annoying.

At least this way if i dont want to get involved in Civil War it wont elave me confuse dwith my other titles.

But i do wanna get involved.

Agreed. Just think about Exicutioners(sp) Song. That was a series that really invaded various books. If you wanted to follow Uncanny X-Men only you had to buy the other books or in your next issue you would be 100% lost. With crossovers now they seem to be better self contained. If you just want to keep getting AMS you can and you wont be cluless. as to whats up, and you wont have to get other books if you dont want to. Thats how it should be. It does seem to me that 52 is a bit more of an attempt at forcing your hand into buying all 52 books.

I love the big crossovers and I can't wait for Civil War to start. As for the main titles that Civil War is going to cross over into,if its not already on my pull list, then I doubt I'll pick it up just because its a CW crossover.

    big crossovers. yech.

i would love a big epic adventure it was it's own self contained storyline. but that seems to be impossible.

plus, if i were a superhero, long about summer every single, solitary year, i would get out of the business. i;d be in the crimefighting business only on the off season. ;)

With Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada & Chief Creative Officer Avi Arad's contempt for continuity, most of the crossovers are built on sand. The disjoined contradictions are already seeping through, although Marvel's editors are supposed to be catching contradictions before they reach publication. Basically, Quesada is green-lighting these projects without a reason to them. He seems desperate.

Since House of M is some much style over substance, I have ignored other Marvel "events." The events are sound & fury signifying nothing. Why? It all comes back to Quesada not enforcing comprehensive continuity. Without continuity, Marvel Comics is nothing.

At least you're not a hypocrite like me. I left Marvel in the 90's because of things like Executioner's Song and Operation Galactic Storm, but I've just got back into DC (and comics in general) because of Infinite Crisis!

    Sigh.
