Wait.... What? YOu mean Marcus Johnson is Nick Fury's son, right? Not vice versa? What is happening to the original Nick Fury?

*sigh* Yes. Man, I managed to really bollocks up that simple sentence. (I originally wrote Marcus Johnson lost his name, not lost his eye). No idea what happened to the original Nick Fury. I dropped the miniseries once I realized Overexposed Claw Guy was going to be in it (after Deadpool, who's also fairly overexposed already tested my patience).

They should've just had Nick Fury make some deal with Mephisto that ended up with him being Samuel Jackson...

Now to go back and fix my initial post...

    Quick Questions here

What is the overall opinion so far on Rick Remender's run on Secret Avengers? Also are there any rumors concerning its status in Marvel NOW!? Will it continue or is it likely to be cancelled?

    Thanks

I'm not sure one's been established yet.

A lot of people were upset that War Machine (and Shang Chi, I guess?) weren't on the roster, though of course War Machine technically sat out one arc and then was back in the second arc. Others were upset that one character didn't survive that first arc.

Personally, I liked the first arc, though it wasn't my favorite ever. I thought the second arc -- the AvX tie-in -- was a waste of my time, but I more blame the event than Remender for that.

As far as I'm concerned, the jury's still out. However, I don't think I've heard word one about its Marvel NOW fate, so who knows what'll happen.

Is the childs crusade arc part of the Avengers series? Wondering how it will work with my Sub 'cos in UK we get reprints and after the Hood series ended it moved to childs crusade and thats the one on the shelves now and avengers isn't.

Is Jessica Drew a New avenger or secret?
    Thanks.

The Children's Crusade wasn't part of the ongoing title by Brian Bendis, but it was quite an important Avengers miniseries. It had more repercussions and implications than any of Bendis's recent story arcs.

Originally Jessica Drew was a New Avenger, but in Secret Invasion it was revealed Jessica was never on the team - it was actually a Skrull shapeshifter taking her place. In 2010 she joined the main Avengers, but has only been on the team for about four story arcs.

It's ... polarizing. Since you don't have ties to the classic Avengers, you might not object, but many longtime readers (myself) strongly objected to the team.

Personally, even beyond that, I'm baffled why people like it. I think it's got a lot of the Avengers doing nothing and acting like morons, with other groups often coming in to be the big heroes, especially in the first year. I just don't think it fits his writing style -- he works better with solo titles (I think his best-received issues of Avengers have often been spotlights) and smaller scope stories. I remember one entire page showing Luke Cage riding up an elevator to fight ninjas. To me, that's ludicrous to have in what's supposed to be the top big-event super-heroic title.

Others, though, are huge fans, so it really does depend on personal taste.

    This.

I didn't like most of it. If you want to read some real Avengers, check out Avengers Assemble vol 1-5 by Kurt Busiek.

    This!

I can see why people like Bendis -- I enjoyed his work on Powers, Ultimate Spider-Man was often very good and the Fantastic Four Ultimate Team-Up was great -- but if I live to a hundred I will never understand why people enjoy his Avengers work. He's a bad choice for the title in my opinion, for the reasons motteditor notes.

That was his best material. I thought New Avengers was amazing in the beginning and it was good up until CW. The dropoff started after that

Are you serious? His New Avengers doesn't compare to his Ultimate Spider-Man or Daredevil. It does decline in quality, yes, but it wasn't good at the start.

Phelpzy, we had a recent thread about why lots of people dislike Bendis's run. Here it is: http://forums.comicbookresources.com...he-Bendis-hate

Im talking about his AVENGERS work, since you know, thats what the poster ws asking about. He has written several Avengers book as of now. New Avengers v1, v2, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers, Avengers v4...etc.. Out of all of this, New Avengers v1's first year leading up to CW was the best he had to offer the line.
