Default CBR: Marvel + DeFalco = Finished?

Marvel Comics writer and former Editor-in-Chief Tom DeFalco's "Amazing Spider-
Girl" is ending next month, to be followed by shorts in "Amazing Spider-Man
Family." But DeFalco tells CBR his "Family" work might be his last for Marvel
    Comics.

This is really a shame; unfortunately, it is a fate that many other writers who get "pigeonholed" share. I heard several other "big name" writers say almost exactly the same thing at last week's NY Comic Con; it shocked me to hear that they just don't get called anymore.....really makes me wonder sometimes, especially with (IMO) weaker talent on some of these books.

Tom Defalco is one of the best, his parts in Maximum Carnage are the only parts worth reading IMHO, a writer that can make you enjoy reading about a character you hate in a story too resentful should have more working calls to write.

I'll read whatever he writes next

Yeah, am I the only one who doesn't really mind this? I've read the entire first series of Spider-Girl and while the characters are nice and all I always thought almost everything was kinda, well mediocre?

Then I read the preview to the new Spider-Girl and I just had to quit.

Hang on a minute, he's saying that the editors don't call him.

Is there some pressing reason why he can't pitch stuff?

Don't get me wrong, the man is a legend, and the second comic I ever read was written by him, but he's not so far above it all that the editors should have to come to him.

If he wants to write something else then he needs to pitch for something else. Even if he starts with one shots and mini-series.

And this reflections thing that is being teased smells an awful lot like it might be a bridge burning waiting to happen. If it is then that is not going to help matters at all.

    Sad thing to me.

I always considered Tom DeFalco a great writter working for Marvel.
I was hoping after Spider-Girl title to be canceled,to see his superior writing in another character...

I'm sorry, but this annoys me. Spider-girl, as Defalco readily admits, was never a top seller and he's whining that it only lasted twelve years? Come on! That's a hell of a run. Do you know how many comics, comics I think were far better then Spider-girl only lasted one year or two? I'm sure we all have our favorites. A niche market book that lasts twelve years is something to celebrate, not mourne that it didn't last 13.

Can you believe that the guy who I've heard is one of the scariest Marvel EIC's ever seems to be pouting?

Well, that there's some shoddy, mountain-out-of-molehill journalism. I don't know why Rob Taylor feels the need to make DeFalco out to be some kind of martyr, but someone should tell him it's not actually helping Tom's case one bit.

For my part, I suspect DeFalco answered some questions about what he's doing post-ASG rather matter-of-factly, and any suggestion of ill will on anyone's part is the result of shit-stirring prose by someone who's pissed his favorite comic is getting canceled.

If Spider-girl was my favorite comic, I'd be pissed too.

By the way, I'm drawing from my own experience when I categorize this as an agenda-driven piece. It just feels an awful lot like a similar bit I did in high school when I was hacked off at the cafeteria ladies over an issue regarding the pepperoni pizza. Maybe I'm wrong, but my instincts say otherwise.

It'd be interesting to see an un-edited transcript of the interview.
