Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.
At first, I was like, "Whoa."
Then I was like, "You go, Magneto!"
Then I saw the bone claws... and dropped Wolverine until the present day.

It surprisingly was pretty well received, all said and done.

There was talk of some interesting ideas with the bone claws. It was meant to change Wolverine for good, make him wilder. As I recall this did not long survive Onslaught (someone correct me?)
It built a lot of hype around whether or not Logan would get it back, somehow, that's for sure.
Two years later, Wolverine #100, when the Dark Riders tried putting it back in... hell, anyone who was a fan of Logan was picking up each issue of that arc.

- the best there is at what i do -
Adored the initial fall out from it, Wolverine 75 is up there with Frank Miller's mini as my favourite stories.
It is the last time I really remember feeling like he could actually be truly affected by events rather than thrown at things for cannon fodder to regrow limbs at will, or used by -insert600thwriterhere- to tell yet another generic Wolverine adventure which adds nothing to the character.
I really wished they would have made his claws artificial, and something Weapon X gave him. Just never liked the idea of bone claws for some reason.
I liked the idea up until I saw the noseless monkeyverine *shivers*
But the moment where Magneto take out his adamantium had a bit of epic, as it was something teased for years.
It was fun, on that time I still used to write in spanish forums... the people was sure that Wolverine would recover the adamantium because he had it in days of the future past...
Even though I, was a staunch believer in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, 1983. (Some of you weren't even born yet) and the subsequent versions that came after -- I, was always skeptical of the "bionic" Adamantium claws built into his forearms though. So, I was as pleased as drunk trapped alone in a Jack Daniel's warehouse on a four day weekend. That was classic observation on your part in reference to DoFP B.T.W.

Hear me X-men! No longer am I the woman you once knew! I am fire and life incarnate! Now and forever...
I AM PHOENIX!
Wolverine was my favorite character, so on one hand I was bummed; on the other, I was intrigued with where this could go. it also gave me a sense of "anything could happen" in the universe, but not in such a way where writers are always bending over backwards to one-up themselves and each other with thigns that will "change so-and-so FOREVER!"
The bone claws thing was exciting and also intriguiing. It was believed, at least by me, that the claws were a response from the healing factor--it was used to claws being there and so it created some from bone tissue. it added layers to the science invovled, along with the healing factor becoming more powerful. It just all made sense.
When Genesis tried to give the adamantium back to him at #100 there was a lot of anticipation, but it was even better that he DIDN'T get it back. Here you had a fairly obvious set-up at a milestone issue number, when issue numbers mattered, and again you felt like anything could happen--even when things didn't happen. When he slaws the Dark Riders, it was even better.
Then, you know, this sort of went nowhere, and the Origins stated James had claws as his initial mutation. This cheapened everything and peeled away the layers of wonderful pseudo-science we were given. Plus, you know, he had a mutation where he just arbitrarily had three bone spikes on both forearms/fists that could protrude at will? Boring.

The Best There Is At What I Do
he was my favorite character at the time, so it was pretty major.
the end of wolverine 75 bothered me more, when he was afraid of the danger room robot & ended up leaving the x-men. as a kid, that got me pissed.
and i'm counting 1, counting 2, counting 3...
I liked when he popped them for the first time and chunks of his flesh splattered all over the Danger Room. It was hilarious!

Wait, he's got no adamantium anymore?
