    "24/7" could be really cool.

The "I am the Spider" crap from the 90s done right.

It's probably a good idea to have a focus on the soap opera stuff in "American Son," with five issues (and one creative team) to play that stuff out.

Weird that the artist of New X-Men and Infinite Crisis would think "American Son" is the most pressure filled job he's ever had.

That's what I love about you, Mets. You're so non-judgmental!

But you're wrong about a couple of things here.

First, "24/7" is the conceptual opposite of "I Am Spider." IAS was about Peter retreating into his "Spider" persona to avoid responsibility.

"24/7" is about Peter abandoning his civilian persona to take on more responsibility. So conceptually I'd argue that there's more of a link between "Knightfall" and "24/7" than "I Am Spider." Or if we're going to a Spider-Man story, I'd link it to "Gang War." The idea being that Peter dedicates himself to taking down a great evil and eventually learns that he can't save the world single-handedly (though let's face it he won't stop trying!).

All of which goes to show that you really lack enough appreciaton for "I Am Spider" to judge it.

"I Am Spider" is flawed, but crap it ain't. It was a pretty worthwhile exploration of something JMD had hinted at in "Kraven's Last Hunt," that sometimes Peter wants to see himself as the villains do--as simply "The Spider." Message being that if you try to escape from the pain and suffering that come from love, you just might escape from your humanity.

    "24/7" could be really cool.
On this we're agreed, and it's the important point anyway. This really looks to be a story that addresses a lot of my criticisms of the status quo.

Not to mention it looks really, really cool.

If we're gonna talk about Peter's responsibility, it should be specified that responsibility only means Peter's skewed idea of it and not true responsibility. Being Spidey 24/7 isn't a responsible action. One always has responsibilities toward other sectors of life. For instance, the Punisher's life style wasn't more responsible because he made his war on crime the only element of it. It even came as a result of having failed his responsibility to his family. Being or becoming a full-time vigilante signals a failed responsibility not an increase of it.

I wouldn't say Peter's sense of responsibility is that skewed. Or if it is, it's skewed in the right direction.

Spoilers from Character Assassination so...heads up.

Does Menace have a new look? It seems like Lily can trasnform into a more womanly form of the goblin from those pictures.

A number of supporting characters play roles in “American Son,” including one Kelly created: “Front Line” reporter Norah Winters. “Norah is definitely part of the story, and I think she's going to start showing up in some of the other guys' stories too,” Kelly revealed. “Everybody seems to like her, which is fun for me. So she'll definitely be popping up again.”

Yeah. Out of all the new characters, I definitely like Menace/Lily.

My guess is that the FF find out what Spider-Man did to make everyone forget his very public unmasking.

I'm guessing that the goblin serum is evolving inside her, kinda slowly merging their two bodies into one. We'll see Lily having more and more trouble changing back into her human form.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

She's going to die fighting Spider-man and Harry is going to go ballistic and renew his hatred for Pete. That's my prediction and I've been spot on so far. I even know who the Red Hulk is.

As someone speculated on another thread, Reed Richards is probably who helped Peter make everyone forget with some techno-whammy. The speculation was that this was the arc where that was going to be explored.
