I recently read Zeb Wells' latest CBR interview, and the comment that a certain New Mutant would become huge in not just the X-Books, but the rest of the Marvel Universe, got me thinking: what if it's Magik?

Certainly, of the current team, Illyana is one of the more high-profile members. Her look and power set make her visually appealing and distinct from other magic based characters and mutants. Moreover, given the events in recent New Avengers issues and future solicitations which state that the rules of magic in the Marvel Universe are being rewritten, it sounds like Marvel is leading up to some mystical event at some point -- a perfect opportunity to rope Illyana into the mix!

If that's the case, I can't wait. I'd love to see Magik take on a larger role outside the X-Men, and given her abilities it makes perfect sense for that to happen.

But on the other hand, Fall of the New Mutants arc may definitely be the one Magik becoming human once again and if that happens, she'll no longer be a sorceress.

I know you would like that, but I would not hold my breath waiting for it. Illyana has recovered her humanity once, when she was deaged after inferno. That history is already done, and it would not make much sense to tell it again. She may become less demonic, but I do not see her losing all her... magick.

. I almost thought it was Dani till you said MU. Although Dani has ties to Thor and Asgard via her Valkyrie connections and Hela. That also gives her a link to the Avengers and she did appear in the Initiative series. But it could be Illyana as she has her sorcery and one of the more notable magic using characters. Hasnt she already done stuff with Dr. Strange?

maybe fall of the new mutants refers to the title and not an actual member,

i can't see them "offing" them having just brought most of them back from the dead or limbo. the other one, not illyana's one.
especially with marvel having just painstakingly brought some semblence of illyana back to us.

maybe after this they will get a title makeover, or at least an actual mission statement and team name.

Dani or Illyana in terms of gaining prominence in the marvel universe at large.

Dani and Illyana are the only two characters from New Mutants who have stories beyond the X-World.

As for Illyana losing her magik....nahhh.

Illyana losing her soulsword is like Wolverine losing his claws. It's part of what makes her..well...her.

But it would make sense because Magik wants to become human again and the Beatrice Medallion and the blood stones will come to play in the arc. Zeb Wells says the Fall of the New Mutants arc will wrap up all of the Illyana stuff. You're right, I do want Magik to be human again but I feel it would be sympathetic to her if it would happen.

It would be the best for the character, but I doubt seriously Wells is going to leave her as just a teleporter. There were blood stones missing in the medallion. Maybe Yana sacrifices part of her soul to "cure" Pixie?

The image of Magick wielding the Soulsword is so iconic that I do not see her without it. On the other hand, she created the soulsword and it has nothing to do with the bloodstones, so maybe she could recover her soul and keep her magical powers?

I wouldn't be worried about Magik losing all of her sorcery because she isn't really a well known marvel character so I don't think it would affect sales.

The other thing is wouldn't Magik becoming human once again would be considered her redemption? Right now, she's on the road to redemption (or struggling at least) and I think to reach redemption would be to regain her humanity.

The major difference between Wolverine and Magik is Wolverine is a very popular character with a large fanbase, but as for Magik, Magik fanbase is very small nowadays so if I ask any regular comic fan who's Magik, they would say "I don't know", and I would like it if she doesn't become popular because of the danger of her character and background becoming convoluted by the hands of some writers who aren't familiar with her (just how it happened to Wolverine).

Just as long as Warren Ellis doesn't get to write Magik. His logic about the soulsword was terrible (and I mean no offense to him but I don't like his logic about it). The soulsword didn't existed for centuries, it was never destined to be wielded by Amanda Sefton, was never forged from soulsteele and there's no corrupted influences in it. It was forged from Illyana's still intact innocent soul by using the power of creation with the motivation of revenge against Belasco after failing to create an acorn just like the elderly Ororo (limbo version of Storm) did and the power of the soulsword is pure and untainted.

The only thing Dr. Strange has done with Illyana was combine his sorcery with her stepping disks mutant power to bring back New York to it's modern setting after Kulan Gath had warped it to like the medieval time setting. Prof. Xavier was about to ask Dr. Strange on helping with Illyana's sorcery or dark side but Dr. Strange said Illyana doesn't need further training and the only way for her human side to be anchored and keep her darkside at bay is if she's with her loved ones (and those two are Kitty and Piotr). It can be further explained from Uncanny X-men #190-#191 so check if your nearest library or comic store or bookstore has it.

You be silent now. She doesn't need another pedophile in her life.

You know about the soulsword convolutions as well? I thought the reason why a lot of comic book fans don't know about her and her soulsword was because she isn't popular. Well it's good to know there's more people who know about the actual origins of the soulsword.

Oh of course. I and Mullholland Driver are a part of the Divine Cult of Magik.

We're like the 'Scientologists' only without John Travolta and his toupee.
