I see Illyana as a sometimes hero, sometimes anti-hero who wants to be a hero. The dichtomy has always been a part of her character when she's been above the age of 6.

That's fine, but that's not stopping me from seeing her as no longer a demon as a result of regaining the remainder of her soul, but I'll promise to bring it to a minimum on my opinion of it. (take that!)
Considering the question regarding Magik's age, there's something interesting I read from the comicvine forums: she's whatever age the writers see her as.

Touché
But honestly its good to hear others interpretations of the character. I for one was shocked to see the goat legged version reappear in AvX but I'm fine with it. Illyana is the whole of the sum of her parts, her soul, herexperiences, her knowledge and her abilities. Aspects may change, but at the core is still the vunerable girl with a dark scary side.
If regaining the majority of her soul means we'll be dealing with a boring damsel, farm girl, then I say she ought to drop one or two of those bloodstones down the sink on "accident".
"Ooops. Ooooh nooooz I lost my innocence in the drain. Aww crumbs!"
I'll admit that setting Bobby ablaze was unexpected and didn't seem to mesh with her seemingly more demure behavior as of late, but....part of Illyana's appeal is the shifting of her personality, and it was definitely fun to see her do a little out-of-Limbo-spell-casting.
The babygoat/bear analogy, though fun, seemed an odd thing for her to say too. But...after her tussel with Strange and 'hoofing' out, maybe she's just embracing a little of that darker, fiesty side.
It was certainly great to see her come to Scott's and Emma's defense, brandishing her sword. Stopped Kitty dead in her tracks![]()

I agree. She is the sum of her parts and her experiences comprise who she is. She may have her soul but she is forever marked by her history. She'll always be 'unclean' in the words of Rahne (the bible nut New Mutants version)
As to 'dropping her innocence down the drain' why does that remind me of those 'lost her innocence' because she rode a horse, or bike stories... (sick minded I guess)
As for the goat and bear thing. I assumed the Bear was to do with her being 'Russian' and that the goat is akin to the one who absorbs all the blame/sins of the tribe ie the Goat of Mendes. Quentin is the red headed step child to be blamed for everything at the Jean Grey School (Hope being the X-men literal version)

The interaction with Quentin made me think of back when she could make Empath soil himself with a simple look. Good times, good times.
FULCRUM: An ongoing fantasy saga by Niels van Eekelen, out on Kindle and Smashwords in all e-book formats!
Speaking of that... the X-Forums FAQ Thread... I just finished the big 3 Ilyana Rasputin FAQs.
Those being:
1. Which powers she has as a mutant, and which are sorcerer powers...
2. How her aging/deaging/death/resurrection all make sense...
3. What is the SoulSword (outsourced that one)...
On the off chance that the research I've done is off, I figure folks in this thread would be the first to be able to spot it, and shoot me a PM on how it needs to be edited. Assuming I'm done with those Q & A's, though, I also figured this could serve as a heads up that rather than tell someone not in the know the whole long, long, long story, you can just link them to page 10 of the FAQ thread to get them what 411 they're looking for.
So... yeah... go team Magik.

- the best there is at what i do -
One thing I've noticed is that Magik can really mean different things to different people. It only makes sense that there would be controversy among her fans. I doubt she would have it any other way!
I enjoyed her scenes in Wolverine and the X-Men. Jason Aaron discussed her at a con once. He thinks she is quite cool. I always wondered how he would have used her if he got her after Schism.
I think Magik's darker behavior is explained with her being on "enemy" turf. Her lines about demons and taunting Bobby are her intimidation tactics. She's used them many times before. We all remember Empath and other characters wetting themselves and running for the hills.
I loved her line to Quentin. Like the best Illyana lines, there is wiggle room in it. If written well, more interaction between those two could be fun!
Nanny: The True Phoenix Egg
Am I the only one that likes the idea of Quentin and Illyana together? It would be a nice, funny bit of anarchy and there's not really a big age difference. At this point, 'Yana is the youngest of the (former) NM with her colleagues all about 20 and over, where she is only really about 19. Taking that into perspective and adding to the idea that it's been maybe two years since Morrison's run: Quentin is only one or two years younger.
